Lee: Good luck with the universe! I think that if we know what we want, and do our best to get it, then we get the help (if we notice it!) that we need. Coincidences aren't actually by coincidence.

Ed: I feel that Anita Roddick probably did more good than harm as she brought a lot of things to the publics' attention.

At the end of the day she did become a businesswoman and sometimes big business can taint original beliefs (in some cases).

Interesting subject though. It's that old thing about giving a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you feed him for a life time.

I don't eat fish, so I'd still have a problem!

Thanks for your comments,
Mike.

The "green" and "fair trade" deals were very opportunistic marketing concepts that served Anita Roddick well. They sound very rosy ideals, but I can give the other side of the story too!

Years ago I was involved in a fair trade program and I spent a lot of time dealing with a Nepalese guy who represented many villages in his region. I found him to be very honest and very fair, I also know how fair trade works, so I have no reason to disbelieve his story.

He had dealings with Anita Roddick. She spent 4 days in his home "negotiating" deals on local herbs suitable for aromatic pillows. She said she was offering over market value so she could reinvest in community projects. She left empty handed, and he set up a program that really did help his people.

International trade in natural resources is a dirty business, and gets even uglier IMO when ruthless business practices are shrouded in "good intentions". Anyway, fair play to Anita Roddick, I am sure she did more good than harm.
