Comment Friday for June 22nd

This week I want to do something a little different for Comment Friday.

I am going to ask a question and the best answers will be made into a blog post, and I will give out links from there.

If you don’t have an answer, please still leave us a comment, or just jump in the discussion, I hope I can involve everyone.

If you had 400$ to spend on advertising your blog, what would you do? LinkRain has already answered the question, and made a great post.

What would you do with the 400$?

I would pay nude models to paint their urls over their breasts, and post the photos on the internet.

You may think it is a stupid idea, but it WOULD work.

I would invite Jane May, Rich Minx and Kumiko for dinner and just listen what they have to say about business.

Hmmm, I guess I’d get some promotional items and advertise that way but of course some would go for links online.

It is interesting. I don’t think I would do those ton of links for cheap though. It is scary to me that…

I agree that asking blog owners is the best way maybe. To contact a “blog network” with lots of different sites with different owners would be a cheaper way probably.

I do ads for the parenting blog network on occasions. I admit that I just put there links into my regular posts and don’t even put that it is sponsored. I, of course, have to just totally agree with the site at the time of the linkage to do this.

I don’t know how much they charge, but I usually get like an Amazon Gift Card or something as payment.

Since 2Dolphins isn’t a for-profit blog, I wouldn’t ordinarily consider spending anything more than my own time for advertsising. But I might consider renting Chris Perillo’s chest.. 🙂

This is a great question. I’m not sure that I would go the route of buying links but LinkRain had a pretty thorough approach for that scenario.

I’d probably use some of the money to experiment with an AdWords campaign. Depending on that nature of your site, the money could be invested in prizes to be given away where people need to link to your site in order to enter the contest.

It might not be bad to reserve some money to make up a batch of t-shirts or something to be given away for potential offline advertising.

I would invest the $400 until it became enough to buy a 10,000 gallon fuel tanker and then distribute the fuel FOR FREE with HUGE banner’s depicting the site. Oh, and maybe get a sponsorship.

$400, seems quite a lot of money just for the ad. Maybe I would use some for Google if it’s not too expensive. I think Jennifer’s idea of paying well-known blog owner to ask them link under their blogroll would be a good idea. Or maybe do something extraordinary to get TV programmes to interview you and your blog…

Have a good weekend everyone! 🙂

$400 just for advertising? Hummm, well, I don’t think that I would buy review because my blogs aren’t so very good yet… But I would buy some Top positions in Communities like on BlogCatalog… (Bought for 1 month already) 😉
Then I like Those ad spots like AdIcons, i would find blogs where they are available and buy some, as well as maybe some links form good known blogs…
I don’t use Adsense services for advertising, so rest i would use on Bidvertiser for promoting my blog…

      Wow. That’s a good question.

While it doesn’t fall strictly fall under the category of advertising, the first thing I’d do is buy my own domain name: there’s something to be said about having a URL that people can remember.

After that? Perhaps working on a way to get my blog presence “out there” in front of the most popular blogs in a way that they’d have good things to say about it (as opposed to tearing it down because I was pimping myself!)

Oh yeah, and my Comment Friday post is up at Love All Books.

      Have a great Friday everyone!

$400? Hmm. I’d buy a cheap old car for $350, spend $50 for printing ads on both sides of the car:

      Create your own blog with
      [bold]bloggersjourney.com
[small]Blogging’s even cheaper than this car.

Then I’d give the car to some kid in a big city, who can’t afford to buy one.

I’ve spent $300 advertising my blog but only on 2 options.

      1. $200 WordPress Theme – Look for a post on my site in the next week or so outlining the MANY benefits I’ve seen in only 2 days of releasing my theme.

      2. $100 Cash Giveaway – Whoa. 20 entries with 5 anchor text seo optimized links! Not that good for getting your name out, but once the googlebot drops by and you start ranking :O

So with another $100….Pull a Harpzon.com stunt and giveaway $1 for every comment on your next Comment Friday post. There’s no telling how many linkbacks he got for that.

I would spend it on advertising in manual traffic exchanges. My blog posts alot about them so it would make sense to advertise it in them. The key is to advertise where your market is. So nude models might get people there, but they’ll most likely leave pretty quick if they aren’t interested in what your blog is really about.

I would get some BAYB merchandise like hats or shirts or mugs etc and use them to help promote the site – maybe some sort of refer a friend competition you use the form to refer a friend and go into the draw.

Hope everyone is having a nice friday whilst I slave away in the office on a Saturday afternoon!
