Is It Worth Posting On The Weekends?

A question I’ve seen more of recently, and one I’m coming around to answering as “No, not really”.

Now obviously I’m talking more about blogs that are aiming for traffic, ad-clicks, Stumbles & Diggs etc. because if you’re blogging simply for fun and maybe a smaller group of readers I don’t believe it matters.  Othewise though, are you neglecting your family to publish posts at the weekend, that would serve you better by putting them up on a weekday?

It’s something I’ve noticed with my own blogs as the months go by, that traffic and comments left decrease markedly over the weekend, before picking up again during the week, when everyone goes back to work – or at least to use their employers internet connection for browsing! I’ve also noticed that if I don’t post at weekends, it has no real effect on overall traffic for the week, but if I slacken off during the week, then traffic, return visitors and active FeedBurner subscribers drop noticeably, and can take time to recover.

From manically posting every time I got the chance as a newbie blogger, I’m now more relaxed about the weekends, and should I log on during Saturday or Sunday to write a longer post, I’m more likely to timestamp it to appear during the week, than hit publish straightaway. If I do publish during the weekend, then it tends to be a round-up post, or something equally simple. I’ve come to the conclusion that long, in-depth articles published over the weekend, tend to get ignored for the ‘fresh stuff’ that you then post on a Monday.

So, how about you? Do you post on a weekend, or save it for the week? Do you think it matters, or is it not an issue? I posted this on a weekend to see what happens….

(PS Did you notice that the post title and the URL are different? If you want to know why, I’ll tell you how & why on my blog.…. 😉 )

I published twice today, which I rarely do.
But, usually, I skip sundays. I am under heavy impression that people read my blog in their offices. So there is not much point posting on weekends.

I agree, I notice huge decreases in traffic over the weekend. I don’t NOT post though, I just save my best articles til the weekday.

I post a roundup post on Saturdays and a small post on Sundays. I usually write up both posts on Friday, so I’m not blogging on the weekend at all.

I usually post on the weekends myself. I’m at work and it’s usually slow, but I don’t post important articles. Usually just random thoughts or funny things I’ve heard. I try to keep important posts for the weekdays too. I do have a linkfest post that I put up every Sunday, but it’s mostly to help the people I work with and is not meant specifically for the public.

I have found my heaviest traffic is Tuesdays. Weekends, especially during the summer, are slow with people coming back Sunday evening. I don’t run a money making site so it matters less to me, but I often post on Friday and leave it through Sunday when everyone starts to return.

I don’t write anything that I really feel people have to read in weekends. If I post several times for some reason it is usually fairly light thoughts.

This is different in the fall and winter when weekends are a little busier in blog land.

I usually post during the week and skip the weekends, unless something major has happened. Most people don’t read on the weekends and the time posting could be better spent.

also, during weekends, i prepare the things that i am going to post on weekdays, since weekends are my only time to 100% concentrate on my research since i work during weekdays 🙂

I tend NOT to post on the weekends in my personal blogs. But on my paid gigs, i do post. I am ever so grateful for the timestamp feature as posts can be done in advance and i can be at the beach or hang out with family. Love that.

Thanks everyone, it seems I’m not alone then.

I agree that the weekends are good times for the ‘speedlinking’ style posts, in fact I may just do one now. Link love is link love, no matter the time of the week 🙂

I blog on the weekends, but they are usually different posts than during the week.

The fact is, I have a streak of posting for something like 500+ days in a row and I can’t bear to break it.

Yeah, weekends do get a bit quieter on the visits side, so I don’t usually post – also to give my readers a break. But then I haven’t written a blog post since the 9th, so I’d better get back to posting and not to reading all these intriguing posts!

I actually think that it is important to blog on weekends but not in the way you would think. Don’t actually write posts on weekends, write them during the week and have them post dated for the weekend so that they show up on the weekend for your readers. There is significantly less blog posts on the weekend compared to the weekdays, getting noticed for a good post on the weekends is much easier then it is on the weekdays.

I would usually post on weekends whether there is people reading or not. That’s probably because I am still at my starting stage of blogging. I would want to spend more time learning about blogging and the theme of my blog. 🙂

I’ve taken a similar approach lately that if I have the time and sit down at the computer, I’ll post on the weekend. But my first priority is spending some time with family and friends over the weekend.

My day with the least traffic is Saturday, and the day with the second least amount of visitors is Friday. I skip posting on Saturdays, but I post at least once all the other days. I aim to publish the better stuff on Tuesdays and Thursdays, because those are my high traffic days. 🙂

I don’t know whether a post is good or not, that is for the readers to decide, so I try to write 2 or 3 posts, 7 days a week and see what happens.

I have stuck with MyBlogLog Sunday which has kept the Sunday traffic at a decent level. It tends to be bloggers calling by to see if they got a mention, so at least it keeps me in the back of their mind. Traffic then picks up again Monday.

I think there is a definite drop during the weekend, not only in blogs but in forums too.

But if you have very interesting posts, visitors will still read back and see what they have missed, so posting on the weekend makes not much difference.

For me, i prefer to make a posts on weekend. Rather than making a post on the weekdays….On the weekdays i’m more into reading a lots of blog that i subcribes in googlereader and surf some new things that might be interesting to post onto my blog.

There’s too much things to do during the time you are working with your regular job(weekdays) beside from my part time job(blogging). So, i prefer to make post during weekend after getting resources for my blog on the weekdays….

I was posting equally as I get time as and when. But the fortune maker advised to post all the time without any break. May be people read at office, but what about people who get time during weekend. So I feel keep posting all the time and always as different regions have got different time zones and weekends to read the blogs.

I find more traffic during the weekend so I always make sure that I publish new article on the weekend then 2 to 3 during weekdays where everybody is busy working on their full time jobs. I focus more on participating to forums and social networks or visiting fellow blogger’s blog to learn more during weekdays..
