Two Free Tools For Downloading Video Clips

Written by Mark of MeAndMyDrum | Fave MAMD | Subscribe to MAMD

When you’re browsing the web, you may come across video clips that you may want to download. Not that I’m condoning pirating material, but there are times when it may be all right.

You could bookmark it, but what if the file is removed or the link becomes broken? The horror!

Here are two tools that could help you out.

ConvertTUBEIt’s called ConvertTUBE. Simply enter the URL of the video you want, and choose one of the six formats available: Windows (mpg), Mac (mov), Mobile (3gp), Flash (flv), Audio only (mp3), or iPod/PSP/iPhone (mp4).

Keepvid is another one. The difference with this one is that not only can you download online videos, but you can convert them at the same time.

You know, it’s interesting that you should mention this… I just recently ran into just this problem! I had incorporated a video off of YouTube for a recent blog Carnival and suddenly it stopped working! I shrieked! I went back to YouTube and the guy was gone too… along with my little video. *Sniff!*

Fortunately, the story was about a restaurant and they still had the TV commercial that the video was about on their own website. I just provided the link to their site instead, removed the YouTube block, made mention of it and left it at that.

I don’t know if they made a fuss about the YouTube video or if the guy just pulled up his stakes and ran away. (shrug)

This is very timely, very true and very appropriate. My only reservation is the need for caution when messing with other people’s property. I do not want to get into any kind of uproar over anything like that!

This is great. Thanks Mark! :)

Hi Evelyn: I’m so glad to hear that this worked out for you. Indeed, I agree with you that copyright is something to keep in mind when using the material we find. Thanks so much for commenting!
