Jimdo : Pages to the people

Do you remember the first web site or blog you ever created? Do you remember how proud you were of your solid colored background, your tacky centered text and your awkwardly aligned images? Do you remember how many hours it took you to get it all together? When was the last time you went back to look at your very first site?

The web has come a long way in since then. It amazes me how much has changed since the very first time I laid eyes on those annoying “blink” and “marquee” tags from the days of old. Things have changed, fortunately, for the better since those days.

Now comes a whole new evolution in web design, Jimdo. Jimdo is an online web design platform that takes all of the hassle out of the creation and launch of you very own site (or blog)… Sure most new web hosts offer templates and plug ins you can use to design and manage your own presence almost effortlessly but Jimdo takes a bit further. Jimdo allows you to start off your design with a simple template but it then allows you to tweak and alter every single element on the page with a simple click and select interface. Anything you see on the screen can be adjusted in some way and it even allows you veteran web designers the chance to go all the way down to code level to do some of your own web polishing. Jimdo also integrates features that bloggers are used to such as a built in rss reader and a way to add your own custom html (think widgets).

The best part about Jimdo is that it is absolutely free (offering a pro service for $6.95 a month which increases your amount of storage space and gives you a domain name in the deal). Jimdo is an excellent tool for the web newbie and web vet that want to put a site up quickly and have it still look good. The basic template selection is very nice but the level of tweaking along with integration with flickr and delicious services makes this a great and simple deal. Jimdo gives you all the tools you need for a stellar blog or web site and even more (with a free fully integrated newsletter service).

Jimdo is the future of simple web design that you should check out for yourself.
