Comment Friday for June 20th

Now that we’ve resolved our little Adult image problem, I’ve been back to work. After you check out our Comment Friday, make sure to check out It’s All Free Online’s Giftcard Giveaway.

If this is your first Comment Friday we give one lucky person a free weekly blogroll spot as our “blog of the week“. Along with that we are also giving that winner 250 entrecard credits.

After our hosting problem I was wondering which hosting you use?
Is the hosting the same as the domain registar? Let us know!

For our hosting, we use Powweb and have been happy with it overall.

We used Godaddy to register our domain name years ago, but that was only because we thought we had to do so prior to finding a host. If I had it to do over again, I’d use the same company for both to streamline the process.

By the way, it’s worth considering paying the little extra when you register your domain to keep your personal data private. Your exact mailing address, phone, etc. are all laying out there for some opportunistic scumbag to use in some nefarious manner.

I still only use Blogger but one of these days I may branch out into something else. For now, though, my blog is part of the online blogs on the website for our local newspaper and it needs to stay that way which is really okay by me!

Hostgator for hosting and Godaddy for domains.

Never never never purchase domains through your host. It may seem easiest at first, but there are far too many possible (even probable) hassles you want to avoid later on if you decide to switch hosting.

I happen to work for a hosting company (though I’m not allowed to say which.) Anyway, I can tell you for sure that a domain registrar is NOT the same as a hosting company, in fact many hosting companies are resellers for actual domain registrar companies (i.e. dot5hosting used Tucows as a registrar.) I by my domain names with IPOWER because they’re cheap there, and then host with my company because it’s free.

As for your little adult content issue, I see you have a good number of hosted sites. Have you considered going to a Virtual Private or Dedicated server? It’s usually cheaper to have one of those than pay for hosting on several sites, and the Terms of Service and Authorized Use Policies are usually more lenient (since you’re technically hosting yourself.)

If you are considering that, may I suggest theplanet.com for a good, well managed dedicated server. (I’ve used them in the past and they’re great.)

great comments, I have thought about a server, but I’ve never done that so this is good enough for now.

I use Godaddy for my domains 😀

I am still using blogger as my host which is free but i bought a custom domain from them. Then, i waited for three days as required and it was not available. i saw that 404 stuff and when i reverted back to blogspot, i could not go back to my domain!

I hate it! i want to be transferred with my own host and domain, maybe outside blogger.

As for one advice by mercutom above, it is very helpful, not only to matthew but also to us who read comments.

I use Powweb for my host as well as the registar for my site.

Although with my new sites I’m using name.com for the domains, much cheaper.

Hosting: 1osc (Os Commerce). 8$ mo. Frequent updates to php and sql. Yes, the are my domain registrar, too (but I don’t get a free domain name with it… I pay extra). I’ve recommended them to 2 other people and have 2 accounts there myself. Yes, we’ve had problems (insecure scripts)… and they won’t install special server applications on “shared” hosting. I wanted to move up to “my own” hosted server; but, come to find out it is a “virtual” server (several on the same computer just like shared but with some sort of firewall or partition software)? Anyone know anything about this?
