Thanks to your post, I just created an account at Statcounter. I love it. It isn't quite as good as Google Analytics, but it's a great alternative to Google, especially when you are tired of Google having access to all your information (gmail, analytics, web history, etc.). I use Google Analytics for stats, along with the Webalyzer stats that my host provides.

I do have a Blogger-based (a.k.a. “Blogspot”) blog, but it’s hosted on my own space with my own domain name. Only downside to this is that I’m stuck using a “Blogger Classic” template instead of the newer layouts that offer all the gadgets & gizmos.

For stat tracker, I use Google Analytics, but whatever works for you is the best. Although I can't see a reason there is a web analytics service that is better than GA (and also available for free).
