May is a huge month for us around here. Its my girlfriends 21st birthday, my 22nd, and we are headed to Vegas to celebrate. We haven’t had a contest in a while, so I figured I would do it big this month. For the next 7 days we will be giving away different prizes to tons of winners.

April has surprisingly been a down month for us. Our RSS readers continue to increase (thank you!) but our traffic has been the lowest it’s been in a while. Still pushing about 10,000 visitors I’m always looking for more readers.

Here is the best for the month, some of these articles might of been overlooked.

Bloggers Guide to SEO: This article definitely was in the making for a while. I think it is very helpful for newer bloggers, or those who aren’t practicing SEO. Even some novice bloggers found the guide useful. Yes, I am working on a follow-up!

Could Mixx Be the Next Digg?: This article caught fire on social media thanks to some great submissions. Mixx is one of my new favorite social media sites. It’s not sending a lot of traffic, but it’s still fun to use. Make sure to join the new Blog about your Blog Mixx Group.

5 Indepth Blogging Tips: Blogging tips are usually a nice quick read. We put together 5 quick tips with the help from one of our readers.

How to Retire at 21: This was an interesting blog review of Retire @ 21. This website and blog I definitely enjoy so make sure to read the review.

Making Enemies on Social Media: This post was a little difficult. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to write it. We’ve obviously been penalized by Stumbleupon due to some “enemies” which is very unfortunate. Who would of thought we got negative criticism on that post as well? Do we really complain that much?

Today is a lazy day for us, I got too much sun yesterday here in sunny San Diego. It’s been almost 100 degrees here! We are also waiting for some packages (birthday gifts!). I figured I would take it easy today and tell you about some upcoming BAYB things we have going on.

What were your best posts for March?

I first posted the Top 20 Contest Blogs list on November 19th. I felt that the contest blog niche was up and coming and very deserving of a list like this.

Since I published the list I have reformatted the formula of which I previously used. I noticed about 5 blogs on the list no longer posted or were not in service so it was in need of an update.

There has been a lot of movement on the list. Contest Beat has taken the #1 spot. It’s too bad that it has been sold, I’ve tried to reach out to the new owner, which no luck. It still deserves to be the top blog though.

Several blogs lost a few spots, but two other blogs have really emerged. The first is Laura Williams Musings which has jumped from 5 to 2. She has a great blog, with tons of contests, giveaways and freebies.

The second blog is About Blog Contests. I recently asked GLF, the owner of ABC, to be our contest blogger for our weekend contest round ups. I think he has one of the better contest blogs, so I’m happy to see his blog jump all the way from 17 to #7!

If you feel your contest blog belongs on the Top 20 Contest Blogs list, please contact me and I’ll add it. I strongly suggest using our list as a resource when you are running your own contest. These bloggers are great and generally post about any contest as long as you let them know about it.

I skipped last month’s report due to some time issues. Here’s checking back in to how BAYB is doing.

Traffic

According to statcounter, our traffic was 11,887 unique visitors. Stumbleupon and social media, along with google has help us pick up our monthly visitor total.

RSS Feed

Our Rss Feed count has been pretty much the same. Our high has been about 580. We aren’t keeping on track with the recent increase, probably due to the fact we haven’t run many promotions. I’ll try to roll with something next week.

That brings the grand total up to 421.17$. Which is an increase of the last few months, but a lot of it has been an increase in affiliate earnings. I hope to keep up the earnings, as well as earn more with my other ventures.

How did you do last month?

Blog about your Blog has gotten quite a few great sponsors for contests. Bidvertiser gave us 300$ in cash to give away. NeverblueAds also gave us 300$ for a contest. The difference? I received the Bidvertiser cash up front.

Why It Matters

Bidvertiser sent me the money when we agreed on the contest terms. I had to cover just a little of the paypal costs. With NeverblueAds I preferred to cut myself out so those paypal fees weren’t there. The problem with that is then I have to rely on someone else paying our contest winners.

I have been known to take a while to pick the winners, so this time I tried to do it a little faster, however it didn’t matter. When I sent NeverblueAds my winners, the email was lost in the mail and weren’t paid right away.

After getting back into contact with NeverblueAds again they swiftly made payment to the contest winners.

It wasn’t anyones fault.

Unforeseen things like this can happen, it was my responsibility to get the prizes out, especially for Christmas.

With any contest…

There is that problem of the prize not being sent. I have won several things online that I never received and so have many others.

This is definitely not going to prevent us from doing future contests, our contest layouts may be a little different however.

Blogaboutyourblog.com just turned a year old and we would love to do another big contest with sponsors and big cash. If you are interested let us know.

With the opening of the entrecard shop many interesting and unique items are for sale. Most are overpriced, but I did find one cheap gem among the items.

I purchased the item which a sonnet written about your blog and published at Q for Quack.

It’s posted as an image and I thought it was pretty creative.
