I’ve always been partial to mommy bloggers. I can’t honestly say that I read too many of them, but I love networking and participating with the mommy’s in the blogosphere. I was pretty active in the PayPerPost forum, many of the bloggers there were mommys or women. Whether you need a vote, a link, or really anything they are there for you. Luckily I’ve found another place similar to that.

MomDot – For Moms and Me

I find myself joining “women only” or “mommy forums”. I originally found MomDot, because someone posted the Top 20 Contest Blogs list and I was getting traffic from it. I generally check out all of my traffic sources and make sure to say thank you etc, especially on a forum.

MomDot’s main thing is their blog, that is updated by the three owners. There are loads of contests, right now I just counted 11 open contests to win. There are also Mommy posts, contest round-ups, meme’s, and plugs to other sites. It’s really just directing traffic to everyone.

Right now one of the mom’s are going for hottest mommy, so vote and help her out.

Free Listings

A huge thing there are the free listings. None of their advertising is paid, it’s all given away. Their sidebar is filled with different blogs, boutiques and websites. All the contests are also sponsored, so it may be a great place to donate a prize and get some buzz from the mommy’s.

Networking

Conversing and just really getting to know the ladies on the MomDot forum has allowed me to really network, build contacts, more than I have been able to do in one place in a long time. One of my new friends even made me a button for Contest Live and put it on her blog. She runs a great contest blog, A Blog of Goodies.

Another one of my new friends/contacts made an entire post about Contest Live because I put her contest up for voting, and blogged about it on the Contest Live Blog.

I think there are two men on the forum including myself. I am the self proclaimed The Mom Dot Man, but after this post I may not be.

ok, ok. So online newsletters have been around for a long time – in fact every decent internet marketer has been using newsletters for years. But i’m seeing a growing trend in the number of bloggers integrating newsletters into their blogs.

So why are newsletters going to be the next big thing? Well they are already a big thing. Newsletters offer a very direct way to reach potential customers. In fact, I have found newsletters to be my single most powerful sales tool. If you want to sell anything at all online, consider a newsletter.

The good news is integrating a newsletter into a blog is a piece of cake – its as easy as copy and paste. Products such as Aweber are great, as they offer a hosted and feature rich solution. But whats not so easy, is capturing leads and converting these into sales.

Here are my tips:

Capturing Leads

A lead is someone who subscribes to your newsletter. They have the potential to become a customer and are obviously interested in your product or blog. The easiest way to capture a lead is to offer an incentive. For example – “subscribe to my newsletter and recieve a free ebook”. This is simple, effective and can all be automated.

Converting Leads

You will first need to decide what the purpose of your newsletter is. Do you want to simply keep referring leads back to your blog? Or maybe you want to sell an info product. I like to do a bit of both. Sending newsletter subscribers to my blog time and time again is fairly simple – It just takes a “recent posts” section in the newseller highlighting the best of my blog. Selling an info product is a little harder and would take many more posts to explain – what I will say however, don’t push a product too hard. Combine content (such as recent posts) with sales pitch for an effective mailing.

Do you have a newsletter?

P.S – First Peep to @feint me on Twitter gets a $10 GoDaddy Gift Card. Make sure you follow me so you won’t miss out

John Cow became a funny parody of John Chow. Several had the idea, but only one has been able to successfully run with the idea. Bob Jones, formerly of BobMeetsWorld.com, found a way to successful brand John Cow into a real money maker and authority in the blogging niche.

By doing that he has been able to sell the John Cow empire. We all know that John Cow was on the market, and was offered $50,000 by different people. He posted that the blog hadn’t sold, but it appears to be under new management now.

Garry Conn the New Cow in the Pasture?

Recently John Cow and Garry Conn have launched a cross promotion, that appears to be about who can make the most money or something along those lines.

The first thing I thought of, however was that Garry Conn must have bought John Cow. Why not? It would be a good investment for someone already in the make money online / blogging niche. The ‘Cowpetition’ seems pretty fishy to me and wouldn’t make sense for John Cow to participate. It seems right up Garry Conn’s alley however, to spin it. They supposedly had a little fight about who was best (are you buying this?). To settle it they decided to have a competition (yeah right).

To make the investment even better for Garry Conn to buy Cow, the cross-promotion would obviously help GarryConn.com a lot more than John Cow. John Cow has about 3 times as many RSS readers. Last time I visited Garry Conn, his RSS feed was at about 600, it’s now up to 847.

Besides the “Cowpetition” recent posts have also been made about keyword research, which is what Garry Conn seems to specialize in, with different niches.

In their last post one of his readers asked to know who the new Cow was, then would consider advertising…

If I’m Wrong…

Yes I could be wrong, however it doesn’t seem likely. If so, the one who has benefited the most from the sale could be Garry Conn.

Ok, so your blog is coming along nicely. You have some good quality content, a fairly steady stream of visitors and you are even making a little dosh here and there. And now you’re looking to reach out to new readers and grow your audience. So you decide to purchase some advertising.

Trying to find the right advertising for your blog can be a minefield, but lucky for you I have pretty tried out the majority of common advertising concepts for you…and here they are.

Adwords – Google’s contextual advertising platform, Adwords is extremely popular and often a starting point for many new advertisers. It works great for selling stuff – but not so good for blogs. In my experience, it didn’t deliver quality click-throughs, and most of the visitors left as quickly as they came. If you are looking at this option definitely look at the site targeting feature.

Sponsored Posts – I have bought both sponsored posts directly from blog owners and with networks such as PayPerPost. Sponsored posts can often drive a lot of targeted visitors to your blog but only if you do your homework and find the right blogs. My tip, if you find a site through say PayPerPost, contact the blogger directly. They often will be happy to give you a discount if you don’t go through the network thus avoiding the large commissions PPP takes.

Text Links – Minimal traffic but could be good for SEO. But be a douche and spam the net with the same anchor text – ever wondered why John Chow doesn’t rank in Google? TextLinkAds always have discount coupons available and they shouldn’t be hard to find. Remember Text Links really isn’t all that good for traffic.

Banners - These can waste a lot of time and money! 90% of bloggers overcharge for banner advertising and from my experience (I have purchase banners on over 200 blogs), 90% aren’t worth it. My tip, try Project Wonderful, they have an automated system which is cheap! But if you have the cash, banners on the big blogs are often very well priced and deliver good click-throughs.

Traffic – no, no, no, no, no! You know the ones im talking about. The sites that sell “guaranteed” visitors, often in lots of 1000+. Even though they claim these are targeted visitors – there not! As soon as they come they go! Don’t be tempted to go the easy option. I tested it out in my early days and know just how much it can fail!

Have I missed anything? Chances are, if I have its probably obscure and not worth the time or money. What do you use?

Ok so it looks pretty bleak. All the advertising methods I have listed seem to have faults. I’m not saying they don’t work – I still spend lots on advertising, yet be careful and spend your dollars very wisely. My number referrer on my blogs is Google. I don’t use SEO tricks, I don’t place backlinks and I don’t submit my sites to directories – yet I rank in the top 10 for many popular keywords. My big tip – content!

Want more? Then follow me on Twitter and hit me up with your questions!

Last week there was a day in the spotlight that you may not have known about. It was RSS Appreciation Day (May 1), a day to promote the wonder that is RSS and how it has brought so much to enrich our lives by keeping us in touch with content we want to know more about.

Aaron Abber of FullTiltBlogging.com created something based on this appreciation that continues now to May 15. It’s called FeedaPalooza. Not only do you get to know more great blogs out there, but you can also get lots of FREE goodies! For example, I’m currently offering my first free ebook where I share with you my tips on buying domains. It’s called Domain Secrets Revealed. The only way to get it is by subscribing to my feed, which you can do right here.

Want to see the other blogs and what they offering for FREE? Then you can go here and browse the categories and posts…and subscribe!

If you’re wondering who Aaron Abber is, he’s someone I’m glad I’m getting to know because he’s mentoring me and a few others about how to generate leads which can lead to profit. He’s not some fly-by-night guy either. He’s helped at least two people become millionaires. I recommend getting to know him.

Mylot was a huge blogging fad, it seemed everyone joined and promoted it. It was a great thing for bloggers, because commission was easy. I made about $30 with little effort before my earnings fell off. I still have 30 cents pending.

Mylot was a huge blogging topic about a year ago. Every make money blogger was heavily promoting it as the best new thing. The last time that I wrote an article about Mylot was Feb 2007!

What is Mylot?

For those who don’t know, Mylot is a huge community with 127,478 members. It is basically a souped up forum with a little bit of Yahoo Answers mixed in. You can start any topic, ask a question or just simply make a comment or observation.

For each thread started or reply, you earn money. The money is small and I’m not exactly sure the algorithm. However for popular topics and replies you are essentially paid more. Once you reach $10 you are eligible for payment.

The real money is made with getting a bunch of referrals.

Mylots Referral Program

When you refer someone to Mylot you basically will earn 25% of whatever the person you referred earns.

A great feature is that you get to see how much your referral earns you each month. My referrals are no longer making me any money, I referred them over a year ago!

Promoting your Blog on Mylot

I just had remembered I made a few posts in Mylot and of course left my my URL. Checking my statcounter I noticed a few referrals from Mylot.

The blogging section isn’t very popular at Mylot, but there is tons of opportunity to promote your blog whatever the niche is.

Mike of Mikes Money Making Mission did this in a great way. Mylot was one of his biggest traffic referrals. The best thing is you are basically paid to promote your own site (since you are paid per post).

It does take a bit of effort, but if you are on daily for a few minutes it can be well worth it.

I’m always for helping out a good cause. At Jason’s Blog he is dedicating March to give back. All the advertising from his ad space is going to charity. The charity will be selected from a public poll. I started the bidding at $1 so get your bids in.

The other part of his March Promotions is the March Contest, Blog Scavenger Hunt. The prize will be anywhere from $5 to $100 (amazon gift card) depending on the number of entrants. Answer easy questions to be eligible. Hope there is a question about BAYB coming up!

The Amatureist Financial Journey in Review

What is it about?

“I started this blog with the idea to keep all of my research on financial issues in one place, and to facilitate the sharing of that information with others.

I am not a financial expert. What you see is what you get with this site. That said, I hope you find some or all of the information I have compiled useful and interesting.”

I thought I would also add what I like and dislike about the blog.

I dislike the theme, its pretty busy and simple. He might want to go with a two column theme in the future. It just needs to be cleaned up a bit. Of course a nice custom header would be a nice addition. I’d also like to see more updates and maybe the number of posts on the front page condensed.

I like that everything is pretty easy to navigate through. The categories and archives as well as lots of tabs are prominent. The feed and advertising is right there, not overdone with it. I haven’t gotten deep in the content yet, but I have a few favorite posts already.

A huge thing with his blog is that it needs more of a direction. There are many different categories and things involved. Tons of contest updates. Spend more time updating and marketing your contests, but not on your own blog.

Favorite Posts

Pay Per Post Nightmare – Any avid user seems to have had some problem or another with PPP. I can only imagine that they are losing more of their regular users due to these problems.

Share In a Frame – This is an interesting concept. Basically giving stock certificates as a gift. I would imagine this be great for grandparents for grandkids.

Wrap-Up

Make sure to give Jason a read and subscribe to his rss feed for more updates. Don’t forget to bid for charity and get a little advertising in the process.
