Looking for some advice…

For a change instead of handing out my own hints and tips I’d thought I’d seek out some advice from the blog about your blog community.
I’ve just taken the next step for my blog and bought a new URL for it quityourdayjob.com.au – now the thing that I was wondering is how will this affect my technorati and other ratings sites? It’s not really a big deal I suppose since the old URL will continue on regardless but I’d rather hear about any pitfalls or problems from anyone out there who has done this themselves too.
Cheers in advance!

I ported over a blog from a free blog on blogspot to a blog on my own domain. As it turns out, it caused some problems. I lost some reader, lost some time and lost some momentum on several fronts including revenue.
My advice now is to stay put. If you have a new idea or a concept, get a domain and start an entirely new, but separate blog. See if it actually takes hold or if it fades. See if you still have the energy for your old blog on your old site after the new one comes up.

It depends.
Since you don’t really monetize your blog it doesnt matter, however if you wanted to it would.
Now you basically have to start over in page rank, you want be indexed in google. The longer the domain has been around the more its trusted, the higher its ranked etc.
You lose all of your technorati stats, and really have to start over. Then you also have to build your alexa rank.
I just moved two blogs of blogspot, and I’m happy that i did, however im not sure you should move yours

See the thing is I’m not actually moving it and have no intention of removing the http://blog.sarge.com.au url so I guess the progress there will remain intact – I suppose having two urls pointing at the site will begin to stagnate the old url as I use the new one more and more, so i won’t be increasing my ranking for a while.
It’s all a little painful. Really i shouldn’t worry about rankings as like you say I’m not money orientated but it is nice to be higher in the ratings.June 14th, 2007 at 2:42 pm -

im not exactly sure thats the best solution, because now you will have duplicate content, and that may affect your search engine rankings
