Using Craigslist to Promote your Website

Not many bloggers utilize craigslist to promote their blogs. I have been using it for a few months now. I often publish several ads per week in different cities. Why should you use craigslist?

It’s Free

Free advertising is always good. It’s usually rare, but when you find it you should definitely take advantage of it. Creating an account takes only a few minutes. If you don’t already have one you definitely should register.

Sell Something

Whether you are selling a service or a product you should definitely post an ad. It’s hard to really promote a product besides blogging about it. Craigslist is like a super-forum. Whether you are offering your SEO services, website design, or something else you may just get a few more customers by listing a short ad.

Why should you post your craigslist ad?

By posting your ads there are many other ways to promote your website or blog. You can publish your ad in multiple city listings to get full optimization of your ad. I generally choose bigger U.S cities for the most results. Try San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, and Las Vegas.

Looking for Guest Bloggers?

This is the ad that I publish. Under “writing gigs” I ask for bloggers looking to publish work on our blog. I choose the “no pay” option and state that by posting with Blog about your Blog they can generate traffic and links to their own blogs. Each ad I publish generally get several hits, some even hundreds. This has resulted in dozens of inquiries.

If your traffic stats are stuck and you need a little boost you never know what results you can get with craigslist. Posting an ad weekly and especially daily can give you a nice steady flow of traffic.

Does anyone currently use Craigslist for website promotion?

with the right copy you can get many hits, I have never analysed whether visitors from CraigsList are worth the effort though , i.e. adclicks and subscribers.

But I guess if you throw enough dirt at a wall…. some of it will stick !

I have used Craigs list, and I was removed! In the small print, it states if your site has google ads or affiliate ads, you can’t post! I was looking to sell a product I had. I was surprised. I am looking for more ways to increase site traffic too.

Hi. Actually a company who I did a PR piece for from my blog posted an ad using a link to my article. This article has been read about 500 times and alot of it was through craig’s list. I tried doing it too but somehow I could never get it to post. I have no idea why. (I actually have sold and bought items on craig’s list, and could be considered addicted to craig’s list…) anna http://www.green-talk.com

Harley, come up with one. Thats the best advice I can give you. Even if it’s not the most original thing you can still put something up and test what works.

Put a link to a free ebook or something like that

To promote your site DO NOT place a link on craigslist, instead use a photo editor and place the URL (Example: MySite.com) ON THE PHOTO and upload it! Always use different descriptions. Another great tip: Get a Dynamic IP address, this way every time you sign onto your computer your IP address changes so Craigs List can’t ban you. And change your email address frequently. Craiglist has to understand they are the only way for many small businesses to stay in business, while we understand that a few people may get annoyed by my world famous thousands of postings it’s worth it to save the lives of starving children (I give much of my revenue to the Feed The Children program). So the next time you flag a posting you JUST KILLED A STARVING CHILD!

THis way you can’t get banned as quickly.
