Comment Friday for September 7th
Friday again so soon. It’s been a pretty full week with some great posts and discussions.
If this is your first comment friday, the idea is pretty simple. Leave us a comment about anything you want. I will select one lucky commentor that really stands out, and I will give a free link to them. Not only that, but they will get a one week free blogroll spot for a week.
Last week I chose Adtracker, and in turn they wrote a great review about us. As I understand it they are offering free reviews so why not get one? You can read the review of Blog about your Blog and see why you should get your blog reviewed.
This week I’d like to know what you think about SEO (search engine optimization). How do you implement it on your blog, or do you even bother? After my article SEO Isn’t That Hard sparked up a nice discussion on v7n forum (and apparently pissed of a few people) I’d like to know what you think about SEO.

I truly believe that all SEO thing is important for those who try to earn some income (no matter smaller or bigger) from blog. But for those who just write for gun, friends and family and don’t uses any advertising on blogs – SEO isn’t important at all…
But, SEO is not so easy to understand, it takes a lot of time to learn and read and browse etc… I still don’t feel that I understand SEO things fully LOLSeptember 7th, 2007 at 5:09 am -

In spite of the fact that my blog isn’t aimed at earning profits, I have incorporated a number of SEO principles. After all, how much fun is it to blog if nobody shows up to read what you’ve posted?
Just recently, I finally figured out how to make the post titles also serve as the permalinks. I’ve also tried to refine my META tags and clean up the code as time permits. And I’ve been making much more of an effort to choose keywords and anchor text that’ll be more likely to grab hits.
Recently, I overhauled my “About” & “404” pages too…

I started out trying to optimize keywords and such for my biker site but as time went on I just wrote. I fuond it hard sometimes to allways place keywords in articles and still have something ok to write about. From now on my priority is going to be quality content and if I happen to get some of those targeted words in there so be it. Like today I just published a beer review on http://www.openroadbiker.net and later in the afternoon I plan on doing a burger review on http://www.totalwebreview.info (that is if the dentist doesn’t decide to pull my wisdom tooth today). Most of the time though with the seo that I have done combined with just writing it seems about 3/4 of my traffic comes from long tail searches that would be hard to target any ways. Heck most of the sites that come up for “biker” and “motorcycle” have been in the game for quite some time now and will remain at the top of the list for some time.

To be honest, I really don’t give SEO too much attention when I am writing an article but I still seem to have some nice rankings for various keywords.
On my personal site, I’ve recently started using the All-In-One SEO plugin to try and improve the META tags for my posts and improve the quality of my indexed content.
But for the most part, I think using a quality WordPress theme will go a long way towards helping your SEO efforts. Don’t kill yourself trying to optimize every single little thing but shoot for the big fish.

Matt- I just wanted to say thanks for the kind words as well as the traffic you’ve sent me this week.
As far as SEO goes, I don’t really know anything about it and don’t make any real effort at it. Yet, for some reason, I do extremely well with several short tail keywords. So well, in fact, I have considered turning my blog into an affiliate site and just blogging somewhere else.
I’m not convinced all of that “Super Secret” SEO stuff is worth the money or effort.
This should get the conversation fired up π

Hmm.. I understand the basics of it yet my organic Google traffic is just about 20% of the whole traffic. That is probably no surprise since I just started using the All-in-One SEO WP plugin about a couple of months back and my previous posts don’t have any META tags or keywords to them.
I am mostly interested in putting out good content out there but SEO is definitely something in the back of my mind.

Quite frankly, I don’t really do much with SEO because I don’t have the time and or the know-how. If I were making a more serious effort to earn money through blogging, I would look into it more, but right now it’s not a priority for my blog.

I do not use SEO on my site, but I do know how to write it up. I find mine isn’t a niche blog, so it wouldn’t work with it.

I do not really use SEO on my personal blogs. I do know how to use it and I have written SEO articles and posts for my clients.
Once in a while I’ll pack a post on my personal blog with keywords. (Sometimes it occurs naturally.) For the most part making the content useful to my readers is more important to me than any temporary traffic surge that I might get from SEO.

This is my first comment here at this site. Last weeks winner Adtracker, recommended this site to me.
I market WEB 2.0 Internet marketing services to business. So my main key word is of course “WEB 2.0 Internet marketing for business” and variation of that long tail.
My first post on my site at aresenalmarketing.com was July 7, 2007. And I appear on the first page of Google on a few variations including my main long tail and just WEB 2.0 Internet Marketing.
As far as SEO, I use the ALL in one SEO plugin for wordpress. I due try to place keywords in my articles if they work. I try to write for the readers of my blog not for search engines.
If my keywords do work I change the font to bold. The search engines do pay attention to this.
I do use as many keywords I can think of that will work with the article, and place them in the ALL-IN-ONE meta-tag section. I always use the excerpt and tile section as well.I do try to think of titles that not only grab attention but also will work with specific key words. I then try to repeat the keyword(s) as the first words in the article, in bold font of course.
I also use the custom permalink. Here’s the permalink I use: /%category%/%postname%
Now there’s one more thing that I do for SEO. I set up categories as tags. So if you look at my permalink you can see that the search engines will see something like social-networking/web20internetmarketingworks
Again this will make for a good variation of keywords for the search engines.
Of my two main keyword long tails:
WEB 2.0 internet marketing for business #2 out of 85 million
WEB 2.0 internet marketing #4 out of 109 million.
There are other key words and variations of keywords where I do come up on the first page a lot on the top 20 and a few more in the top 30.I use the Slim Stat Statical program for wordpress and it gives me all the keywords that people type into google to find me, it also give me the time of day this happened. It’s crazy what you find as some of your keywords.
By the way the SlimStat program also give you a lot of other stats as well, it will tell you recent domains that have come to your site, new domains. It breaks down the amount of visitors by the hour if you like and keeps a tally of total visitors for yesterday and today. This week, this month, last month and aslo give you a grand total of visitors.
I hope this helps you to understand what I do for SEO on my blog. I look forward to reading the rest of your blog.
Best Of Luck!

Hey,
Wow, you’re right. Another week has flown by so fast.
But on the SEO topic, mainly I try to get links that contain my keywords, as well as linking to my other posts. I use META tags as well, and make sure my post topics contain keywords.
All in all, before I haven’t cared as much as I do now. Now I want to do my best and I strive to improve, so lately I’ve been implementing new methods for getting traffic, backlinks, and search engine traffic as well. And work does pay off, so I just advise everyone that’s lazy to get to work. Because I used to be awfully lazy, but now I’m trying hard. π
Have a great weekend,
Tay

No, I don’t pay much attention to it. I can understand the need for blog which are geared toward
making money to worry about it but honestly all that stuff is a pain in the butt to me. I get most of my traffic from google regardless so I’m pretty seeded in there just do to the fact that this current blog and address are a year and a half old. I don’t see how people with careers not in blogging can really concerb themselves with it all. I have done a few things over the year like adding a archives page, and a contact form, removing a lot of crap from the front page and making a larger aboutpage. All of this seems to have been worthwhile as the about page gets mant long checks and the contact form has been used quite a bit since nsitagted and the archives are looked at constantly. So in retropsect SEO doesn’t matter to me at this point, but optimizing the blog for readers does.

It’s way too late for me to be up blogsurfing, though I suppose it’s better than other kinds of surfing I could be doing at 1 am. I found this place through visiting a blog that is a second cousin to a blog that is linked to by a blog that I normally visit. I have other artistic projects that occupy most of my time, so I post a few times a week (humor) and leave it at that. I have a wordpress SEO plugin, but I DON’T REA(sorry) don’t really check it. It’s more fun to me to see what searches get people to my site, such as “how to make an origami frog,” “paintball injuries,” “best pizza combinations” and “humorous stock picking theories.” There you have it. My quasi-SEO post.

I hope I am not breaking any rules by adding to my last comment. I was so worried about writing the proper way, I forgot to mention the most important part of SEO. Back links. This is why there are so many people who are doing well in the search engines and page rank, yet don’t fuss with SEO.
I do everything I can to create one way back links to my site. I use all kind of social book marking sites, forums and the like to get back links.
I spent and entire day submitting my site to different blog directories and RSS directories, just so I could get backlinks to my site.
All the other stuff I mentioned is important, but nothing is more important than quality content and one way back links to your site!!!
