Comment Friday for October 26th

Another crazy week in the past! Pretty stressful, I’ve been having all sorts of computer problems. It’s the last week of our 300$ cash + advertising contest, so make sure to enter if you haven’t entered yet, there isn’t much time left!

For our new subscribers and readers, if this is your first comment friday, the idea is pretty simple. Leave us a comment about anything you want, on topic or not. I will be selecting one lucky commenter that really stands out, and I will be giving out a free link to that person. In addition to that that, I will be giving them a free blogroll spot for that week.

Google Page Rank updates have taken effect on many bloggers, us included. Has it hit you yet? If so, will losing rank really effect you? It’s gotten me a little down, but I know we will just keep moving forward.

Good morning to you all! At last I have a chance to leave a msg…

Well, I don’t think it really matters much whether the Google Page Rank had been updated or not… But I understand that it’s not a nice feeling when knowing that your blog’s rank suddenly is down. I’m sure your rank will be go back to where it was and even better. Please cheer up Matt.

      Have a good weekend! 🙂

I didn’t lose rank, but then again, I sure didn’t gain either, which is a little disheartnening since it was already pretty low.

But I’ll agree that many bloggers – almost certainly the vast majority of metabloggers – fixate far too much on what Google thinks of their blogs. What’s really important is what you, the blogger, think of your efforts and how your readers respond.

I’d much rather see the number of comments posted by my site visitors, readers, & the few rare subscribers increase than to have a higher Google PR score.

Dont’ worry for losing the rank, Matt, even john chow loses it.
I have updated your contest details at my blog so that you can get some more rss subscribers and entries.
Best of luck with your contest and PR.

It just kills me that most people think PR is so vital. Yes it is set up by google but google PR can’t tell others how much traffic people get which is what they really are interested in. It does look like a huge chunk got hit maybe even twice in a few weeks but will that stop their already current subscribers from not coming there anymore? No. It also will not mean that they won’t gain more either so I would hold all your apples in that one basket because in this etherworld it doesnt mean diddly.

What upset me about the Google PR is that I worked my butt off to get my blog the right links from higher PR blogs only to be slapped with a 0. It’s very discouraging.
I make money from PPP, so PR was/is important. They have something new in the mist so hopefully that will help.

My meager PR remained the same. I honestly don’t know what to think of PR. It doesn’t seem to effect traffic, so should it really mean anything? Isn’t traffic the bottom line?

On another note, Matt, I’ve been follow your fire updates and I’m so glad you’ve been safe.

On a final note, you’re above 400 RSS!! Woot!! Woot!! 🙂

Like the others have said, I don’t think page rank is really worth that much. Traffic is the true indicator of how successful your blog is. As long as your traffic is growing, and you are getting good search traffic don’t worry about it. It probably is more important to get listed well with all of the search engines becuse you never know what will happen to any of them.

Woo Hoo…I got to my Friday reader before it was Sunday.

I don’t know if the PR is over, but so far. I have stayed the same. I like my 3 though, so it is all good with me.

I am sorry that you lost here though. This is an awesome site, so it does make me wonder about the value of PR.

I’m a BAYB virgin, so I do hope you’ll be gentle with me.

This whole PageRank malarkey smacks of something much more sinister at work.

While people like you & me are finding stuff on Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit and del.icio.us, we’re not searching for stuff on Google — and that attacks at the very heart of Google’s revenues.

To qualify this observation, some weeks ago Aaron Wall over at SEO Book highlighted Google’s penchant for penalizing wildly successful linkbait campaigns, specifically leveraging social media.

The fact is, Google just don’t understand social media, so in their eyes, it’s as well to either ignore or it try to bury it rather than innovate around it .. or let Microsoft buy a share of Facebook…

It hasn’t affected my sites at all. Why? Because my blogs are all so new, or relatively new, that they don’t have a page rank anyway.

Most of my blogs should have been updated in the 3rd quarter, but because there was no update, I didn’t get anything.

So, my theory is, nothing from nothing is not so bad. Besides, I can only go up from here. LOL

I was reading the thing about the Google page rank thing and I just don’t get it! Well, to be perfectly honest, I really don’t understand the whole thing they do anyway, but that aside, I’m just amazed that they are being so mean to people for weird reasons. How do you know? How do you tell? Yeah, it doesn’t help when you’re hopeless in this area like I am, but I still feel safe in thinking Google is being a bit bizarre for what their “real” function is supposed to be. I guess their “function” has gone waaaay outside the box after all the search love we’ve all shown them over the years.

From what I have noticed, my PR hasn’t changed (yet), I’m still at PR5. I wouldn’t get that sad if mine were lowered. The only thing I would loose is money, since advertisers still count on PR.
But I would still continue blogging just as I have from the very beginning. Money isn’t everything!

yeah im thinking we will take a monetary hit too, just from blind advertising. Hoping to pick up a few from our readers and bloggers.

I think the whole pr thing is getting pretty extreme. Time for sponsored post sites to evolve even more

If only I had PR. I was hoping to get a PR rank, I’m on 0 and I’ve never had rank before. So I don’t know if they actually ranked me 0, or haven’t ranked me yet. Darn it.

On the plus side I have a shiny new theme. Check it out! Emma

      If you’ve got a 0, you’ve been ranked. Otherwise, you’d have an N/A.

I have to agree with Matt. If Google is going to penalize our blogs for posting sponsored ads, then the companies who are offering the ads shouldn’t be vying for higher ranked sites.

Talk about a rock and a hard place

I have been hit, with my main site going from PR 3 to PR 2. I will have a harder time making money but plenty of oppurtunities sitll exsist. I won’t support Google if they won’t support me. That means AdSense better start making some cash by December 31st or our agreememnt is terminated…permanently!

I have just discovered BAYB and I’m so excited. Already I have connected with a few more people and found some great tips. I’m a real newbie at keeping tabs on my blog (I’ve just been writing before, but I’m getting serious now). SO my comment is really just to say HELLO and I look forward to learning more around here!

Due to Google’s lack of RageRank update, and the newness of my blog, I haven’t seen any real PageRank at all. As far as the toolbar PageRank is concerned, I never payed any attention to it in the past, and I’m not going to start now.

Either my PR didn’t change or they haven’t hit me yet. And to be honest, I don’t really care what the page rank is for my site. It doesn’t affect my readers and it doesn’t affect the content. I rely on plenty of other methods to get my site out there for new readers to find.

      Enjoy the weekend, everybody.
