Making Money With Videos

As I haven’t written a post for BAYB for quite a while I thought I’d do this one on a money making program that I joined recently, well on the 21st of September to be precise.

The opportunity is Voxant Newsroom. What I can say straight away is that I have received a payment from them so feel confident now to mention it to other bloggers. You can see a copy of my cheque here. In the six and a bit weeks since joining I have made $338.36.

Okay, so what is it all about?

Voxant provides content to include within your posts. These consist of images, photos and videos. Personally I would avoid the images and photos as they are too dominated by adverts.

I have made my money from their videos – don’t worry they aren’t blue or anything like that! The videos come under various categories and therefore, with a bit of luck, there should be something suitable for your niche. Categories include: U.S., Local and World News, Business, Politics, Health, Sci-Tech, Entertainment, Sports, Life and Odd. It’s a decent range and there are sub-categories as well, though it must be said that it is weighted in favour of the USA.

Obviously you put the videos on your blog (using the provided code) and get paid for doing so.

The crunch is what do you get paid?

This is where you either say: ‘Is that all?’ or ‘That’s not bad’ considering how much traffic your blog has.

For a video it’s $4 per 1000 plays and a video story is $3 per 1000 plays. Now note this is ‘plays’. In other words your visitor has to click and watch the video. However, there is another way – which I am using, though not on all of my blogs.

There is a choice to have the videos on ‘auto-play’. In other words they switch on when anyone goes to your blog. This way every impression is a play.

As I said, I do this on some of my blogs only, where I don’t think this will cause a problem or mass revolt. Oh yes, nearly forgot, there is no money to be made by referring others to the program – so writing this won’t benefit me if you join. But there can be a viral effect if you are lucky and have the right videos at the right time.

On each video you place on your blog there is a clear embed button. This is to tempt others to also run the video and, if they do, you get some commission per 1000 plays (or part of).

So, in brief, that’s Voxant!

Good luck, Mike.

I tried them a while back. They have lots of content, and quite slick too. Judging by the earnings potential, it is time to up the ante and use their material a bit more.

Good write-up, Mike! I’ve used Voxant only once and didn’t get much of a turnout for it, but I guess I should look into it more as it looks like it’s done well for you.

Thanks for the comments Ed and Mark. Voxant has worked okay for me but mainly because I use ‘auto-play’. I’ve a couple of blogs where it’s okay to do this without it affecting traffic.

I’ve been fussing with it all week but it won’t work with WordPress. WordPress and Voxant need to talk to each other but they’re not doing it. I’ve put bugs in ears all over the place. I think Voxant is awesome! I’m not sure why WordPress is being resistant to working with them to get the kinks worked out of the mark up. Sigh. It works, but it wipes you post off the page leaving only the article and ad. So, I ended up with just a link back to them because I had to remove their block of html for my post to go back to normal. So, WordPress people, tell WP you want to use this thing… they told Voxant they will think about it if enough users make noise about it.

Evelyn: Sorry to hear that. Matt said that the first Voxant video I put on this BAYB post wouldn’t work but the current one seems okay.

All of my blogs are on Blogger and I’ve had no trouble or problems using Voxant with them.

Hope it all sorts out okay for you.

could you reduce the size? I find all the layout are rather big, not like the one on your blog (above.)

What happened for me is that the video didn’t work and threw the whole blogs theme out of whack =\

You know, kher Cheng may have something there! You know how you can wipe out an adjacent column of stuff if your pictures are too big? Maybe it’s the same thing. They give you choices of size but even the smallest of the first article I found made everything except itself go white (i.e. a blank screen).

Because I’m weird like I am, I’m more anxious to get Voxant in working order with WordPress because it will help them. Yes, I’m weird like that… even in real life. What they’re doing is good for all bloggers and I would hate to see them (and the WordPress bloggers) cut out of it a chunk because of something as idiotic as html or size issues.

kher Cheng Guan: There are a range of sizes for the videos – you simply pick the one to suit your blog.

Matthew: No trouble at all on Blogger. WordPress does seem a little limiting in comparison and slower.

Evelyn: There are all sizes, so there shouldn’t be an overlap problem with videos. Looks like it’s a WordPress thing! It’s strange because when I’ve put the videos on BAYB and check them they work okay.

The last time I checked back, after about 10 minutes and was still working, but obviously something goes wrong after that.
