Comment Friday for February 8th

Sometimes I hate Alexa! We have a great traffic day, yet our rank goes up. So weird to try to predict!
If this is your first Comment Friday we give one lucky person a free weekly blogroll spot as our “blog of the week“. Along with that we are also giving that winner 200 entrecard points.
This week I was wondering how many people use WordPress? If so, did you install it yourself. If your not on WordPress, would you pay someone to set it up for you?

I’ve used WordPress for over a year now. When I first started, I had used Fantastico to install it for me. After a while, I learned the ropes of things and started to do the installations myself. Even if I didn’t know how to, I would probably just ask a friend to help me install it. A lot of hosts include Fantastico so that is a wonderful way to get started. If not, well… WordPress has made it incredibly easy to set up anyway. You modify the config file, create your databases, upload and you’re just as good to go!

Yeah I use WordPress and I love it. Easy to customize or it is great out of the box.
BTW Alexa is crap. The amount of using the toolbar is so small that if 10 people come to your site and use it your Alexa ranking will at least be 100,000. Just imagine 100 people coming? Alexa sucks.
I advocate using Compete data. It is much more accurate.

Hey! Great question!
I use wordpress for several of my websites. Some of the websites I use it as a main blog, for example my jeancosta.com website, as you can see thats my main blog. For other websites, I might use it for an “articles” section. But in the end, I always set them up manually.
Just so you are aware, I am currently using godaddy hosting under a linux based server, and I have several websites under one account.
Anyhow, I would not consider paying somebody for setting up my wordpress since, it is so easy, I can literally do it in a matter of 5 minutes. I just simply create a new MySql database, then I upload my files to my server, enter in the url address of where the wordpress will be, follow a few easy steps, and boom its done! Plus I like the security aspect of me doing it. I would not feel secure about letting somebody else doing it.

Luckily I have spent tireless hours of working on WordPress on my own. I will look online for help and discussion forums on any problems I have but I have not paid anyone to install it for me. I probably would if need be, at a (very) decent price though.

I use wordpress..actually, when I first started, I clicked that I agree button, when I didn’t read what I was agreeing to…dont we all do that? That would be a good poll! I ended up having to transfer an entire business blog – PR4 to its own domain, and I decided before I made the move to create a blog of my own. THAT blog has done very well. I did the set up myself, and the transfer of the business blog!
Its been quite a learning experience. I set up the business blog using wordpress theme generator and the art blog, I tweaked the code of a wordpress theme! Im an infant in the blogging world but it is alot of fun!

Maybe you have that traffic from people who don’t have Alexa toolbar installed. Those people doesn’t count on Alexa traffic.
This is the first time when I comment on comment friday. Did I receive anything? 🙂
I use WordPress on all my blogs. I used fantastico one time, for the other blogs I’ve installed WordPress all by myself.

I use WordPress and I install it myself. It’s just easier that way, you get more freedom with it since you can access every part of the site.

I don’t use WordPress because I’m not interested in having to learn lots of coding and technical language. I just want to blog and put out my writing. If I had to move to WordPress, I’d learn how to myself though.
Right now I am on Blogger, and if my blog grows enough, I’ll probably get a domain and redirect it.

Actually c-squared, you’re wrong. You don’t need to know any coding at all to install and run wordpress. I’d say at the most, you need to be able to Google how to install wordpress on your server 😉

When I first started I had NO IDEA what I was doing and probably would have paid someone. I learned step by step how to manually install it. Just a week or so ago I learned about Fantastico…figures! I’d be happy if someone paid me to install it for them though haha!

Yeah Ryan, Alexa is inaccurate, but I find it to be pretty accurate for the top 10 or even 100 websites of the world.

Yeah, Alexa just irritates me. Its inaccurate but I would like a good score regardless!
I actually didn’t set up this blogs wordpress, one of our authors, Lee, did it for me. However, now I can easily set it up with no problem. 🙂

Yes, I’m using WordPress, and I love it. For anyone who is interested in it and considers using it, but doesn’t know the technical stuff or how to install it, it is still SO worth it to hire someone. I recommend WP to anyone and everyone.
As for Alexa, I agree. It can be bothersome and sometimes inaccurate, but overall a lot of the time it’s still a good measure.

I am using WordPress. I have a Debian Linux server on a T-1 line. I’m no expert in PHP or MySql, but the WordPress installation really only took about 2 minutes. Once it was setup, it was a breeze getting configured to my liking.
I would not pay someone to setup WordPress for me. It’s just too easy. Now modifying templates is a different story.
I’ve been flying up in the Alexa ranks, but my blog is still in diapers. I’m sure I’ll get frustrated with them in time.

I use WordPress and initially did pay someone to set it up. (with a theme, etc.) Now, I’m trying to figure it out all on my own…and sadly I’m not catching on very quickly!!

Yes, I’m just set up WordPress. They have step by step instructions so it is not too difficult. For real noobs, maybe they’ll pay someone to do it for them but as mentioned above, many hosts now offer instant set-up.

I moved to WordPress after more than 4 years with Blogger. I’m wondering why I didn’t jump sooner.
My host did the initial install but I’ve taken it from there. I’ve changed the theme and done the updates so I feel fairly confident with it all now.

I first started using wordpress a year and a half ago when I registered mysitecometrue.com and got my first paid host. It was globat.com. Globat had an auto installer that let me install my wordpress. My blog got roughly 20 articles, (over a long period of time) and then was hacked. Globat was supposed to automatically update, but it never did, so I was open to exploits. Now, I just really got back into blogging. I installed my own wordpress and update it myself. It helps that I have a little hand in PHP and HTML. And no, i would not pay someone to set me up a wordpress blog… its too easy!

I use WordPress but used Fantastico to install it. Apparently that’s not the best way to do it, but it worked for me. I’ve also upgraded manually (which didn’t go well), but have now found a plugin to help me update it.
