Comment Friday for February 29th

Sorry I am late on putting up Comment Friday yet again. By the time I was going to post it everyone was asleep. Apparently I type loud. Anyways, this week I am back on a diet and have already lost 8 pounds. The first two days I lost 7!

If this is your first Comment Friday we give one lucky person a free weekly blogroll spot as our “blog of the week“. Along with that we are also giving that winner 200 entrecard credits.

Google pagerank is on my mind. It’s depressing losing PR regardless if it ‘doesn’t matter’ or not. Fact is on ranking lists of top blogs we will lose a lot of ground. This week I want to know about how your blog has done with PR. Did you lose any? Did you get it back? Have you done nothing?

I was finally hit with the big 0.I went from a a PR5 to a PR3 initially and stayed there some how while everyone else went to 0. I checked a few sites that I KNOW utilize every paid to service available and unbelievably several are still PR3. It’s as if Google picks who they want and allow spammy blogs to stay put. Personally? I don’t care, because most of the blogosphere now knows how ridiculous Google’s PR is simply due to the fact it doesn’t mean you are banned from their search results. I get a 1000+ uniques a day,(for my blog, which isn’t a niche and is the Seinfeld of the blogging world-a blog about nothing-that’s damn good), most of which coming from Google/MSN/Yahoo-yet the PR is supposed to make my blog more worthy? Ok. Sure.

In Relation to Beths comment; i may self have just recently started my site been about three months i think with small content additions once every few weeks. Traffic wise according to analytics i get between 30-50 uniques a day.
SEO wise i have just done the basics, readable URL’s, metadata, a sitemap over at google webmasters and generally commenting on different blogs i visit on a regular basis.
To my surprise i hit PR2 today. In perspective two months a go i was PR 0, After fixing URL’s and metadata i hit PR1 in Jan and now I recently brought my domain name and have done no tweaking think i published 1 article this month and i hot PR2.
Im not sure how PR actually works but im not complaining.

Before the latest update, I was a PR3. I was very exciting for the most recent update because I knew that would increase – WRONG! Google finally caught me for selling dofollow advertisements, etc. and they zapped me down to a PR0. Considering I haven’t corrected my ways and haven’t asked for reinclusion, I guess I’m going to be stuck with it. But if I don’t sell my ads, or make them all nofollow, I’ll hardly make as much money.

Even if Google does it to make their search results and their algorithm and everything better and more “natural”, sometimes I just hate it.

Google doesn’t want people making money unless it’s done their way, which means- we’d still make little or no money as non A-list bloggers. We have to remember- Google is not the Internet Police. No where is it written that Google has a right to dictate what we write, what we link to and whether or not we’re compensated for it. I’m going to continue to do things my way. Google doesn’t pay for my hosting or domain renewal charges I do-blogging for compensation is not against the law as Google is making it out to be.

@Don- When I referred to “spammy blogs” I meant those which are still utilizing every paid to post service available. Your blog is new and you haven’t had time to establish what your content is and how your blog will perform within a given period. Google is slapping blogs that have been around for a while-established, paid and NON paid posts/advertisements, with no rhyme or reason. It baffles me as to why they’re also knocking the PR down on blogs who don’t blog for compensation- I know of a few bloggers who have never had a single advertisement or a paid post on the blog, but they’ve been dropped to PR0. I think John Chow should have been slapped harder, since he makes more than us non A-listers, yet Google only dropped him to a PR3 from a PR4. A year ago I was on track to reach a PR6. I’m not worried. All I’ll do is keep blogging, continue using SEO to get traffic and commenting on blogs. This is more important to me than a page rank.

I am totally fed up with Google. Like others have said, they don’t pay my hosting fees and they can’t tell me how to run my blog. Thank goodness there are other valid ways to get traffic other than Google search. Because of do-follow links a a couple of disclosed paid posts, one of my sites went from a PR1 to a PR0. That despite an impressive increase in traffic and backlinks.
I’ve said a lot more about this on my blog.

My blog is pretty new, It’s been up since November and I still have 0 PR. I’m sure its because the layout I chose to use creates a duplicate content issue off the homepage and I dofollow links.

I need to get my act together and nofollow some areas on my homepage so I remove the duplicate content issue, It’s just one of those things that’s been on my mind I just haven’t had the time to do it… maybe ill do it now 🙂
