Project Wonderful Not So Wonderful for Bloggers
- 12 Comment
After entrecard adopted project wonderful many bloggers seemed to adopt the same system. We gave it a try and wrote a Project Wonderful review.
Project Wonderful in Re Review
I gave project wonderful a pretty positive review, stating that it was a great resource to use for monetizing your blog. However, don’t expect much money from it. I ended up running Project Wonderful for nearly 2 months and barely got to cash out twice ($20).
For the first week or two, our price was up to $2.20 per day. By the end we could barely get .30 to .40 cents per day. I would actually be losing money if I would take Project Wonderful over a private ad ($20 per month for a banner).
I don’t think Project Wonderful is very good for monetizing your blog. However, for advertising, it can be golden.
Advertising on Project Wonderful
If you are a bargain hunter for advertising, project wonderful may be just what you are looking for. Some websites and blogs cost as low as .01 per day (some are even free). Just by getting one click on your ad, that’s already a steal.
Two of my favorite blogs to advertise on have been Ninja Success and It’s Write Now. The cost per day is pretty low and my cost per click is only a few cents. It’s been a perfect way to use up the rest of my Project Wonderful leftover funds.
If you aren’t trying to squeeze out every dime, you can do a huge bulk order and advertise on 100’s of blogs if you want to. HomeBizBlogger has written his experience with Project Wonderful Advertising Campaigns, that could be of interested if you want to bulk advertise on Project Wonderful.
Do you reinvest the money you earn on Project Wonderful? If so which websites or blogs do you advertise on?

If you are using PW and own a blog I want to buy your ad spot. My Name above links to a thread where I’m buying ads. Thanks for letting me know Matt.

Thanks Matthew, I like having your ad on my site. PW was kind of an experiment, once I pass the payout it probably will go, but I appreciate you advertising on my site. BAYB is one of my favorite blogs. 🙂

I use PW to promote affiliate links and get referrals. The bank of sites is small, too many comic related :), but it’s worth a shot since the cost per day is so low.

It’s tough to stick with, but you have to keep your space up long enough to be appealing to advertisers.
Based on views and whatnot, the longer the box is up, the more appealing your space will look. If you ditch it too early, don’t expect anything to happen I guess.
To each his own…..again 🙂

Hey,
It’s because people look at the stats sheet and people automatically think that 10,000 visitors = click thoughs which is NOT true.
But I dropped PW a while back because it just wasn’t worth it, in my opinion. Especially since it was so inconsistent.
But hey Matt, I sent you an e-mail for possibly contributing as a sponsor for my upcoming “review” contest. Let me know, thanks!

Sorry Jay I’ll write you back now 🙂
Well we had PW up for nearly 2 months, and we were never below 200 uniques or something like that (per day) with as many as 1,000+.
Some days we had no advertisers with a 30 cent per day minimum.

Hi,
I’m a blogger and a cartoonist, and have a lot of experience with Project Wonderful and Entrecard.
My opinion is that the two are not compatible. EC pumps up your traffic, but not your visitor dwell time, which is what makes ads works. Savvy PW users scout blog for the EC widget before placing an ad, because they know the traffic stats will be misleading.
In the end, I ditched EC, because I didn’t want phony traffic, I wanted real traffic. I took a dip, then slowly recovered. All my sites have robust traffic now, and site quality plus PW is where I put credit (some may disagree about site quality, but I do my best).
Any blog thinking of leaving EC should scout out comics that might interest their readers and approach them to advertise if they are on PW. (Use the internal email.)
EC disguises blog failure, so evaluate your blog before making any big new commitments and see if it needs to be better. Blog success in my experience has been all about controversy and useful content — they come for the first and stay for the latter.
I have about 38,000 visitors/month (25,000 at the highest site) compared to a few hundred a day tops when I left EntreCard.
If I thought EC worked, I’d still be there. I am not here to slam anyone’s strategy, just to tell you what I’ve learned and accomplished. But unless you’re getting at least 2-300 organic, real hits per day, don’t expect to earn much hosting for PW. Build up your traffic with quality and know that EC traffic is discounted by many people on the outside looking in.

In fairness, Yahoo’s analytics are getting good reviews, but I haven’t tried them myself.
