Do You Own A BlogSpot Blog?
I like doing polls for two reasons. One I get to see what people think and the other is just to simply ask questions. I’m always curious in the minds of bloggers.
Lots Of People on Blogger
My most recent poll was, “Do You Own a Blogspot Blog?”. You may not know but some great blogs started out on Blogger, such as Dosh Dosh and of course, this one. Should you move off blogspot? Yes! But it can’t hurt to have blogspot blogs. You can use these to build links to your main blogs, or really just start a project.
I recently just made another blog on blogspot, My Healthy Info. This is to test to see how my content would do, and if I could make money with this health blog. I enjoy writing the articles so it’s all in fun.
Blogger also offers easy ways to redirect a custom domain from your .blogspot domain. This is perfect for beginning bloggers, and exactly what I did with several blogs in the beginning.
Poll Results
Out of the 47 votes we have, 68% of bloggers own a Blogspot domain. Well I guess you don’t really “own” it, but they have one. This simply shows that Blogger is a huge blogging platform that is perfect to start your first blog on.

well, i learned the hard way that when you move from blogspot to a hosted domain you better not duplicate the content. i made that mistake for a while, and technorati still hates me for it. not sure if i can ever get that cleared up. of course, it didn’t help that i first migrated to typepad, and then from there to my own domain. i should’ve probably just let go of all the old content (it’s a political blog, not a moneymaker, so bringing all the posts with me was just a vanity thing).
live and learn! be careful if you migrate! plan ahead and get advice.

I’d be really interested to know how many blog authors are out there who have Blogger Classic-based blogs hosted on their own web space (with their own domain name, of course). We’ve been doing this for over 5 years now and have been generally happy with the platform. Unfortunately, FTPing on our own space has meant that we’ve stuck on the older Blogger Classic, but that’s really not too much of a limitation.
I sometimes get a little envious of the cool gizmos & widgets that the newer Blogger users have access to, but then again, I don’t use any of those sorts of things anyway. (Heck, I don’t even have sidebars! I like for my content to be front & center.)

I prefer wordpress.com for aesthetics and support, although I my site is ad free, which is a requirement for wordpress.com blogs.

I actually started out with a blogspot blog simply because its free, and you cant beat free. But I also noticed that I did not get the same amount of traffic with blogspot that I didnt once I switched to dedicated wordpress, even though I was blogging about the same general topics.
Good post, I agree they do come in handy for building out some links

I have wondered whether it is worth owning a Blogspot blog to post articles linking to your own blog. Isn’t it better just to post the articles on your own blog, which provides fresh content for search engines?
