Comment Friday for March 14th

Comment FridayWith the excitement of yesterday I completely forgot about Comment Friday! It was a great day for us. First we got back our google page rank. Then our stumbleupon captcha post went crazy and received about 50 stumbles.

If this is your first Comment Friday we give one lucky person a free weekly blogroll spot as our “blog of the week“. Along with that we are also giving that winner 200 entrecard credits.

Our post about encouraging readers to subscribe got a little swept under the rug yesterday. Now that we know why you should get rss subscribers, HOW do you get them? What is your method? What has worked best for you?

I have gotten my best results by putting the RSS feed links at the top of the page in a prominate location. Adding an RSS by email option also has helped as 2/3rds of my readers are using the email option. Writing good content is also very important. If people don’t like what you are offering, why would they subscribe? You have to add value to your users on a daily basis.

I know of quite a few of our subscribers who we picked up after either Dede or I left comments on their blogs. I always try to leave comments anytime I have something constructive to add to the conversation. A little feedback can really validate and fuel a blogger – I know how much I enjoy getting comments on my own blog posts, so I figure other bloggers appreciate ’em too.

Also, we’ve found that participating on forums has gained quite a few new subscribers for our blogs.

I don’t have too many subscribers as of yet, but I think that a great way to get them is to put out an obvious subscription reminder at the end of every post. And then maybe another button that is static and always on your pages.

I am still trying to figure out how to get subscribers! So it was interesting for me to read the previous comments.
I have easy to find feed buttons, and I try to write something interesting. I haven’t tried a contest or anything like that yet.

To be honest I really have not given a lot of thought about RSS and getting subscribers, so this post has been truly an eye opener.

Chester, I do agree with anything prominent displayed at the top and catchy enough, will certainly get eyeballs, and yes if your content is bad, no one would really bother subscribing.

Jim, that’s actually one of the best ways to get an action or conversion, if your conversion is to get a subscriber, it comes right after content so if the content is really good then I guess the higher chance of getting the reader to subscribe.

      Thanks for all the input.

I haven’t promoted it much lately because of upgrading the blog and other things, but I do agree with others….I did just from 10 to 30 or so pretty quick with having links above and below each post.

30 isn’t a ton but it’s a start, and I loved your post on it.
