Comment Friday for April 4th
Definitely an exhausting day for us. We spent all day at a wedding. I’m ready to doze off, but first, Comment Friday!
If this is your first Comment Friday we give one lucky person a free weekly blogroll spot as our “blog of the week“. Along with that we are also giving that winner 200 entrecard credits.
After putting together the Bloggers Guide to SEO, I noticed a lot of bloggers hadn’t really started optimizing their blog for search engines. What steps have you taken to improve your blogs SEO?

My blog has permalink structure…
I have the All in One SEO Plugin…
I blog about Backlinks and Link Building… I also continue to post about “Checking Your Backlinks” since my first post about that ranked very very well and is my major source of search engine traffic.
And I comment on blogs, do-follow ones, and ones with Top Commenter plugin (Why doesn’t this blog have Top Commenters? hehe)
I pretty much have the bases covered… When are you writing Bloggers Guide to SEO – Intermediate Edition (or Part 2)

First off, I’m doing all things you mention in your guide (which I Stumbled btw).
Also, one basic tip that many people forget about is that the only use of H1 tags should be for a blog post title, and definitely not for the title of a blog itself.

I am using blogger, so submitting my sitemaps has done the most good. It was tricky figuring out the right format becuase I use FeedBurner for my feeds and have blogger setup to foward my rss feed links. Turns out you have your url in the following format: atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=???, where ??? is a number greater then the number of posts you have. This is also a great way to get a backup of all of the content you have created. Within two weeks of adding my sitemap to google webmaster tools I had twice as many pages indexed.

Like Chester, I also manually maintain & submit a sitemap with Google, Yahoo, & MSN.
I also implemented Google Analytics and keep fairly close tabs on my stats to see what seems to be bringing readers in.
And lately, I’ve been tinkering with adding geotags to my blog. This is more for curiosity than SEO, but anything that might help people find my blog is a plus, right? I’m working on a blog post about geotagging but in the meantime, here’s a really good article to get you started if you’re interested:

Oh boy – the commenters above me are way smarter than I am about this stuff. The only thing I’ve done is to make my post titles more searchable and less “cutesy”

I also use the All-In-One SEO pack on my WordPress blog. I try to add as many relevant keywords to each post as I can as well as in that posts meta tags.
I also like to change the title tags to be a little different than the post title, so I can lure in a few more visitors for different keywords.
I use a permalink structure that creates very keyword dense links which has helped me with Google as well.
I am still looking to work more on SEO so I am planning on doing some more research.

Don’t worry pass the torch, some of these commenters are more knowledgeable about it than me as well. I don’t do anything “from scratch” lol.
Bloggers Guide to SEO Part 2 is definitely in the works. We are open to suggestions as to which to post about.
