Comment Friday for August 24th
Comment Friday back again so soon. I look forward to Fridays, getting so much response from everyone. This week I am going to try to comment more myself, so there should be more discussion. Don’t forget to check back a couple of times for everyone else’s comment!
If this is your first comment friday, the idea is pretty simple. Leave us a comment about anything you want. I will select one lucky commentor that really stands out, and I will give a free link to them. Not only that, but they will get a one week free blogroll spot for a week.
This week I’d like to know which social bookmarking you use. Do you try your luck on digg or are you banned like a lot of us? Are you just a stumbler or do you consider other bookmarking as well?
Lastly, have you had any success with social bookmarking?

Most of time I use StumbleUpon. And then, when I remember I also use Netscape and Digg (but I am not a fan of digg at all). Some time ago I used Magnolia too but I always forget my open id so… =D =D

Stumble Upon has been a huge success for me, getting huge traffic spikes, and people who seem to be genuinely interested in my stuff.

Stumbleupon for me. Atleast my 3 posts has been stumbled and received over 125,000 visits from them.
But the secret of the social media success is that you should give more than you expect to receive. Stumbleupon is not obtrusive and whenever I see any good content, I give a thumbs up. The advantage is that I don’t have to waste my time going to site to take part.

For keeping my bookmarks I use del.icio.us. I never seen much traffic from it, though.
For site promotion…. I was always hoping to get a digg hit (yes, I know it is just wasting of resources but nevertheless, I wanted to see that peek).
Just this morning, I noticed StumbleUpon generated traffic for the first time. That means, I never submitted any of my pages to SU myself, nor my readers do that often. But then, all of a sudden, SU gives almost one third of search engine traffic (two thirds is google, all the other gives some ppeanuts).
I am fond of surfing the web with Stumble Upon, it is fun to click “surprise me with something interesting” button, but I haven’t thought of using it as an important promotion tool. That will change today. Anybody has some useful tricks for stumble upon?August 24th, 2007 at 2:22 am -

I do use stumble, normally about once a week. My main source is mybloglog and blogcatalog and I love that with all three I can see who visited me last. Happy Friday!

I like StumbleUpon, DropJack, ShoutWire, Reddit, and lately I’ve been trying a few newbies like bVibes & Thoof.
Seems like StumbleUpon hits do keep coming, but for the most part, submitting my articles to these sites doesn’t typically do much in the long term. But it does give my site nice little bursts of activity.
I like to think of this kind of traffic as Internet junk food – tastes good and you get a little sugar-rush, but nutritionally void and won’t stay with you long.

On a previous Comment Friday on traffic sources, many people said they use StumbleUpon. So, since then, I’ve downloaded the tool bar and been giving it a whirl. I’m still trying to understand how to best utilize and contribute to SU. I’d love to get your advice on this, Matt.
I don’t have a digg account, but I was once on the homepage for off beat news.

I just started using StumbleUpon and mybloglog. Mybloglog has been more successful for me at this point – but I am also more active in the community.
I am starting to realize that these communities are just like so many other things in life: You get out of it what you put into it.
So if I want to get more traffic I have to work harder and be more involved. Crazy idea isn’t it? 😉

Like most others, I use Stumble Upon. It seems to work the best, but I’m not sure if people are really reading my posts, or just stopping by.
I’m also a member of mybloglog and that’s were I’ve gotten the best visitors as most of them have come back time and time again. That tells me that they’ve at least read one or two posts before moving on.

When I posted my $5k freelance writing income post last month Stumble sent me 700 or so visitors. So I would say yes!

My most consistent success has come with the use of StumbleUpon. It brings the most visitors on a regular basis.
I’ve had one post hit the front page of digg and that brought an insane amount of traffic for me but it is much harder to land on digg. For that reason, I don’t really try to do much with it right now.
Two that I have been exploring more lately and have had decent results with are Netscape and Technorati WTF. Between those two, WTF has sent me more traffic but they both have potential and are easier to get the front page than digg.

It’s interesting to read the comments about Stumbleupon and Digg here. I haven’t really used either to any great degree. One site that I’ve been using lately is Squidoo as you have the opportunity to create a very quick one page site that you can then link back to your blog. There are also groups that you can join which can help to focus your efforts.
Clearly I need to look much more closely at Stumbleupon as a first stepAugust 24th, 2007 at 9:20 am -

For my blog, I find StumbleUpon quite useful. I make sure sure to Stumble every post on FiveBlondes. and I’ve seen up to 35 stumbles in a single day – not bad for a month-old blog. Yesterday someone visited my blog off of my Stumbleupon profile! (thesnowfox, if you’re interested).
I also use the Facebook WordPress app – I consider it social bookmarking among my friends. Currently the app drives the majority of my traffic to my blog.

My first experience with social bookmarking
Lately, I had one article who is stumbled upon by one of the first time readers. And it is bringing in about 80 visitors before it starts to die off.
As I was relatively new in social bookmarking given my exposure to full time Internet business since only June 2007, I know there is this digg site only. I didn’t know what it was. But I do know many people got digg spammed, causing their site to be unstable for a moment because of so many diggs. I start to see how digg works, and digg a few of my own blog posts initially. It seems to have only 1 other people digging me. I have been thinking how digg really works… And eventually, I focus myself to work on my contents first since it was still quite young.
I have been trying digg and stumble… And they seem to be of not much effect to my site. At that time, I start to wonder if I know how to blog. And start to read other people’s digg. And it seems like the information is either technical, or something very simple little picture or just something that people might think others want to see. I start to get really confused about blogging and start to accomplish my own style of blogging till now…

For social bookmarking, i use green digg-like site, Hugg, and digg-like site for women, sk-rt. I don’t even try Digg, that is a total waste of time for me, as i’m not digg writing savvy. When i learn how-to do that, i will definitely submit to Digg.
Also because i use scribefire for my blog posting, it automatically submits all my posts to delicious. (neat scribefire feature)
Those are the ones i use.

I’m a huge fan of StumbleUpon for many reasons. It seems that it’s easier to do well with StumbleUpon. I’ve never had any success with Digg, but once I got an article on StumbleUpon that was a big hit. With it I got on the front page of PopUrls and thousands of hits. That was the best I’d ever done with a social bookmarking site in my life.
StumbleUpon is also good for entertainment. When I get bored I can sit and stumble for an hour, and see loads of things that I am interested in.
StumbleUpon gets my vote, 100%. 🙂

SU is a good place for a short term spike, but I think that building relationships with other blogs works best in the long run for traffic. The biggest flow of recent traffic was from a busy site that said nice things about The Pisstakers. Wallstreet Fighter rocks!

I did forget to mention, SU. I do submit many items there, not so much from my own blog, but cool stuff i find or write about. According to my stats package, i do get a good dose of visitors from SU.

I use StumbleUpon like everyone else. I also use MyBlogLog, FaceBook and MySqace. I tried Digg for awhile, but nothing ever came of that. I was lucky enough to go hot on Sphinn about a month ago and got some great traffic (and a few regular readers) out of it.

I am not super active in any social site except MyBlogLog. I do use Stumble on occasions when I am caught up on my reader stuff…currently behind 167 articles, so not today.
I like your new plug feature as I can plug without logging in, that is a huge bonus.
See ya..

Digg is waaaaaaay too much work. I’ve looked at Stumble Upon but haven’t taken the time to figure it out. Based on everyone’s comments, I’ll have to find the time!

Personally, I use del.icio.us and some StumbleUpon for social bookmarking. A lot of bloggers seem to have had success with SU bringing in lots of traffic for their blogs but I haven’t had any so far. I’m not sure if it’s because some of them explicitly ask their readers to stumble their posts. I’ve never really done that.
