Comment Friday for September 14th

I was heading to bed until I remembered, it’s friday!

If this is your first comment friday, the idea is pretty simple. Leave us a comment about anything you want. I will select one lucky commentor that really stands out, and I will give a free link to them. Not only that, but they will get a one week free blogroll spot.

This week I’d like to know what you have been blogging about recently. What has your interest at the moment? A new blog, making money, etc. I’ve got a few things on my mind, making another top blogs list is one of them.

As I learn more about blogging and the marketing/networking aspects of it, there’re increasing things I’d like to work on, test and blog about. This week has seen an increasing no. of such tasks that I have had to prioritise. Apart from blogging on Internet Marketing as usual this wk, I’d really like to blog about how to monetize my blog, whether to do it or not etc. I’d also like to mention more of other blogs that I am learning lots from.

I still blog about blogging and how to make money online, recently I found that those Social Networks – are very nice to promote who you are and what you do (or even sell LOL), so my latest posts are about Social Networks. And on my another blog – about life, I blogged about Britney :D, lately I started use TheNewsRoom – they have some really interesting news in nice format.

One of the ‘problems’ with running a personal-style blog is that it can be a bit, well, nicheless. That is, we post articles that are cover a wide range of general interests so there’s often not much in the way of unifying theme or obvious common topic.

Lately, we’ve blogged about a number of events – our 11th anniversary, Dede’s birthday, a baptism, and other personal milestones.

Hmm .. “one week free blogroll spot” who could turn that down?

I’ve been blogging about all and sundry (as usual), but my biggest thing is probably about switching to Google Reader as my preferred way of keeping up with my feeds (http://www.u-g-h.com/index.php/2007/09/06/switching-my-feedreader/)

This week has seen me refocusing my blog. Over the last few months due to work I’d blogged less and less. The reason was two-fold. Firstly work was getting in the way and secondly I wasn’t sure what it was all about anymore.

So I sat down and thought what can I write about, what do I want to write about and how can I make the time to do it. I found the answer really easy. I love what I do and if I use the blog to help me do it then there’s always going to be time. So that made my decision and the blog has been reborn!

I’ve been thinking a lot about goals and motivation. Not because I’m lacking them, but in fact the opposite. I sometimes think I get far too wound up and think too much about blogging, but then I read articles about success stories and get the impression that that is what it takes.

Basically, I don’t know how much the average successful person works because they all tell lies in order to fuel their marketing campaign.

Last week I blogged about the dangers of household cleaners. Too many kids are poisoned by common chemicals that people have in their homes. Most of them can be done away with by using simple homemade cleaners. Homemade cleaners clean just as well as the commercial ones and don’t harm the environment anywhere near as much. Moreover, many commercial cleaners have really toxic chemicals in them. Did you know the active ingredients in 409 and Fantastic are ant and roach killer? I don’t want to clean my counters with that, but the bottle doesn’t say that anywhere on it. Hopefully more people will find my blog and learn about the alternatives to commercial cleaners.

I just finished my 3-part study of the different blog engines and what the pros and cons are of each. Next I plan to start a series of Learning 2.0 for Beginners posts, going over each of the most common web 2.0 tools and explaining how to get started with them for beginners. I’ll start with explaining what Learning 2.0 is and then will explain how to set up a simple blog. I’ll also cover things like flickr, twitter, etc. I’m collaborating on this with my husband who is setting up a Learning 2.0 program for the library where he works.

I also have written in between these post themes about miscellaneous Web 2.0 news and things I’ve discovered, like that there is a charge for flickr after 200 photos (I didn’t know that), How to embed a YouTube video in a self-hosted WordPress blog. that Facebook is now changing so that it will allow search engines to search for members (a real change in concept), some Library 2.0 stuff and various things other 2.0 related items.

After being stuck in a motivation hole for quite some time, I’ve just taken up blogging again. My last post mentioned some website that wants to be in the Technorati 5000 or something like that.

Well, I’m just trying to get back into the right routine. I guess.

I am blogging about second life and virtual worlds, that’s my niche. Last week I ws in the short posts. Too short maybe. Last friday I did a long story about faking identities in Pogo.com which ended in real murder. I thought I should give some break to both my readers and me, and to try writing whorter. So far, stats are saying short posts are not that popular.
Coming up next… a bit of analysis of SL market and griefing problem.

My comment goes along with Rodaniel’s comment. With trying to improve my blog I have become frustrated with everyone’s need for a “niche” which is why I have started the catch phrase “Random is my Niche”. I love my ‘random’ series of blogs and don’t think we should be though of less for our Randomness. I hope that “Random is my Niche” can spread to all the blogs that don’t fall into one category.

I am just doing my normal driver news blogging and my daily life updates. My site is just business as usual…boring. Aaaaahhhhh!

I have had my Blogger of the Day now almost 3 months. I like it…although it hasn’t been getting the selected a lot of views…like 10 maybe. So, I am looking to revamp it a little. I am going to get a little fun award logo and eventually change those posts over to my other Blogger of the Day domain, where I will put a little description of why I picked this particular site.

I have been focusing lately on travel resources on the web. Just posted about how much you can track about flights these days. You can watch flights in the air around airports like Chicago, NY live (20-60 second delay) as Google Maps overlay, look at flight paths across country as your loved one in the air. In one site, you can even watch flights fly aound bad weather systems!

I just learned of this site recently. I like the way it showcases blogs. I think it helps build a greater sense of community. I personally love to write in my blog and have enjoyed meeting many other people from all parts of the world who share the same interests. Lately, I have actually focused on generating traffic and even blog my experience in that endeavor. Keep it up!

      Thank you

My bloggings run the gammet of ideas. Recently, I’ve been focusing on product reviews and giving other bloggers ideas to write about.

Each of my blogs covers a different area of expertise, though I’m by no means an expert in any of them. LOL

When a person has different ideas running through their heads, they should have several outlets at their disposal.

I just blog about my kids, but my latest post is about how on Blogger there is a “Next Blog” button that takes you to a random blog. Well, I click it and it took me to an X-rated blog. There should be a warning or something about that. What if my kids were in the room with me when I clicked it. I shut it done really quick, but it still disturbs me that it was there with out any warnings.

I’ve been blogging a lot about advice articles and ways to create an online reputation.

While many people are considered experts in their field in the regular world, it would be extremely beneficial to extend this to the online community.

Not only could many interesting articles come out of this, but could you imagine the blogs? “Brain Surgery buzz” by Dr. Smith, “Thank You, Come Again” by Mr. Convenience Store, and “The Things I’ve Seen” by a hotel cleaner.

Not only could they provide interesting reads, but blogs like those could easily be monetized after establishing a reputation and following. The advice that could be learned would be rather intriguing as well.

First, let me say what a great idea this is. I think I may steal it, not that I have nearly as many visitors.

Second, I was wondering if any other bloggers are like myself and end up having to fight the earge to create new blogs about everything.

I have had a website for some time, but I am new to the blog world. Now that I have been blogging consistently for a couple of months I have had to fight the erge to start a blog for every topic that comes to mind.

I also wonder if any other bloggers are like myself and when they see a good idea on another blog they want to copy it for theirs. I wonder if this is a blogging faux pas, or if, like almost everything else online, plagiarism is an accepted part of life.
