Future of Blogging
Have you ever thought about the future of blogging? What will blogging be like a year from now? As serious bloggers become more experienced, they create and manage more and more blogs. What will those blogs be like?
Blogging Takes Over
With more and more plugins, themes, and customizable options, blogs can really be anything. You can even make WordPress to NOT look like a blog if you want to. Deactivate comments, post titles, and other typical blogging features. In time, WordPress and Blogger will be used for more than just traditional blogs.
Multi-Author Blogs
Once a blog gets to a certain point, it becomes hard to maintain. 5-10 posts a week can be demanding. Thats why many bloggers are turning to guest posters as well as blog partners to help them keep up. Blog about your Blog, for example, has over 25 authors to contribute to the blog.
Now however the growing trend is to start a blog with more than one person. The potential for monetary gain increases, so if you decide to split it, you may be making as much as you would by yourself. As it gets bigger you can then have a team. I see this trend growing to make life easier for the average blogger.
What Do You See?
What do you think the future of blogging is? Does Google and Blogger go after WordPress, buy them for millions, and then screw the rest of the bloggers? Does the latest page rank scare everyone to stop blogging, except for John Chow? Speaking of John, does he find a way to make enough money in one month to buy all his competitors blogs?

I personally think you will see a huge difference in blogging over the coming years. Not only will you have more of the mega blogs where entire teams of people contribute, you will also have advances in the software that will allow more interesting types of content and a higher level of interaction with the reader.
Its a great time to be a blogger. While many think this is over, I see it as just getting started.

Blogging is a lifestyle that more and more individuals will get hooked by. Definitely, blogosphere will keep growing. Downside, there will be more crap, too. But this is not what we have a control over…

I too see a much higher level of interaction between blogs – with platforms like wordpress, everything needed is in place (because of the ease with which you can add functionality), it just needs developers to utilise it.
I’ve included a link above to my own “blogging conversations” concept layout (like a walkthrough tutorial), which I plan to roll out shortly, as a way to start increasing interaction between blogs and their blog content.
Btw, Google should NEVER be allowed to buy WordPress. That is the worst thing that could happen to the blogging community, because of Google’s increasing monopoly-like approach to the web, and their “do it our way or don’t do it” attitude.

Google will continue to screw things up for bloggers unless a good competitor shows up. I think blog will continue to grow, but the money to be made from them will decrease as well.

I so hope Google doesn’t buy WP. As much as I like Google and even though I get upset with them at times, I still believe it’s in the best interest of all bloggers to have more choices, not monopolies.

There is love and hate relationship between bloggers and Google. However when we look at top bloggers we can clearly see that they have very good traffic from Google. The good thing is this traffic is targetted traffic. Therefore if Google buys WordPress, i don’t see it as the end of the world. I see it as improved search engine ranking and indexing for WordPress users 🙂

Blogging is definitely taking off and I’m excited to see where it takes us. The weak will be filtered out and the strong will survive.
Let’s bring the future on, as long as it’s not the Terminator type future. That would suck.
