Real time monitoring can be fun as well as informative about the behavior of your readers. Instead of trying to come up with ideas of how this can be useful, I am going to open up the comment thread to you to tell me how you would use this information.

This is an interesting toy but I have a bit of an issue with it.

I realize we leave footprints everywhere we go online. I also realize the owner of a website can collect even more info than this with any stats service.

However, if I came to a site that publicly posted this information, I would mark it and do my best to never come back.

On a low volume site that info could be posted for hours or days before rotating off. No thank you.

Any degree of privacy is very difficult to maintain online without going to extreme measures.

I would never broadcast my visitors’ information like this and it would be a deal breaker for me visiting any blog that did.

Ad Tracker.. great point! I guess I should claify that this widget does not give out your IP address or any other personal information that will identify the visitor to other readers. (not to the best of my knowledge)

All it does is to show the location a reader is from and what site led them to your blog and what they clicked to leave your blog. There is no way anyone can identify an individual with just this information.

I hope I addressed yoru concern regarding privacy. If not, I’ll try my best to explore more about this service.

I am right up there with you about not disclosing your readers information to the public. I certainly wouldn’t do that but I don’t see any harm with this widget though. Maybe I am missing something? 😀

OK, maybe I’m just paranoid and there’s probably nothing wrong with this widget, but I hate those sites with the widget telling where every visitor is from and all of that stuff.

I realize the IP number and ISP aren’t included, I just don’t like them, sorry.

Of course, I don’t care for that stupid MyBlogLog widget either but that’s a post for another day 🙂

Remember, just because your paranoid doesn’t mean someone’s not out to get you 😉
