Google Bombing

Click to go to Mike's Money Making MissionI was reading a book called The Rough Guide To Blogging and I came across something called Google Bombing.

It seems that Bloggers sometimes use their collective linking power to have fun at Google's expense. If they can make a concentrated effort to point to a particular site in great numbers, all using the same link text, they can dictate the top Google results for a particular phrase. This then is Google Bombing.

One humorous example of this was linking the words 'miserable failure' to George W. Bush's official website. Doing this made Mr. Bush's site hit the top spot on Google when anyone searched for 'miserable failure' - and it still does!

Some businesses have also attempted something similar for their own websites - not as miserable failures, of course!

Good blogging,
Mike.

Reviews by Soapbox Jury

Apologies for the delay, but a very happy new year to all Blog About Your Blog readers. I hope 2007 is happy, healthy and prosperous for you all.

As some of you may already know Soapbox Jury provides independent reviews of websites, blogs, products and ideas. Unlike some other review sites, we are well known for researching our subject carefully and making constructive suggestions. Every website we review is guaranteed a screenshot, at least one paragraph of comment and a link. Every review is guaranteed to heighten brand awareness, give you a few pointers and get some more traffic to your site. We do not charge for reviews (even though we should have a respectable PR value by the end of this week) but we ask that you link to us in return.

So far 2007 has been a slow year for review requests. Now is a good time to get your requests to us. Unfortunately, because of the time taken for each review (about 30 mins) we can't promise to include every request, but we'll certainly consider them all. If you would like to submit an item for review please visit our welcome page and read the submission criteria.

Best wishes for the new year

Tom and Sam - the Soapbox Jurors

Blog about your Blog Hotseat Interview

Blog about your Blog has a new little way of getting to know the fellow authors. I have come up with a series of questions and will send them to the selected author. They have about a week to respond and it will go on the blog. Eventually I hope to get everyone interviewed, and with new members joining everyday this will definitely be an ongoing thing. Every week interviews sound good.

Since I presented this idea I am going to be nominating the first author. I have chosen Mike from Mikes Money Making Mission. He has been with this blog since its early days and has been one of the biggest contributors to it. After Mike's interview he will then select the next person to get interviewed and so forth.

I have a lot of standard questions, but I would love some more. I have a few 'personal' questions, followed by general blogging questions, and BAYB questions. Submit questions you would like to see in the interview by emailing me at ff_n_stuff@yahoo.com or commenting on this post.

Thanks, I hope you all enjoy this and will participate in the idea.

Yahoo buys MyBlogLog

Yes, it's true!

I first read this story on Echo Mixed Nuts and couldn't believe it. After further research, I was getting mixed signals from different websites.

Some reported MyBlogLog has been sold for about 10 million, while others were reporting that they were still in the early stages with Yahoo!

After going right to the source, MyBlogLog (their blog) reported they have in fact been acquired by Yahoo! and the entire team will be moving the San Francisco. Congratulations to the MyBlogLog team on their sale, it definitely paid off.

The Yahoo! team reports they don't plan to change MyBlogLog right away, and it seems they will remain separate from Yahoo. One article I had read, the author wished that Google had purchased MyBlogLog, and I had to laugh.
No official word has been made as far as I've seen as to how much Yahoo had to pay, but like I mentioned, it is rumored to be about 10 million dollars.

I hope the purchase will help mybloglog as a website, and not make it another corporate website with no heart.

Check out our MyBlogLog community, and join up. I have set our goal to become a top 50 community, we are about 1/3 of the way there. With many new changes likely on the way for MyBlogLog, now is the best time to join. One possible new feature that has been mentioned is personalized skins for your mybloglog community page, which gives you a great way to personalize it. Hope to see you joining, leave us a comment.

Coffee or Tea SIR?!

Personally, I prefer coffee. Why? Because it's far more addictive compared to tea! And the coffee aroma is simply irresistible. It doesn’t fail to wake me up in the morning! Some people might regard this as smelly, but heck, I love the smell of coffee in the morning and that’s the only thing that can wake me up.

Whenever I think of coffee, I have the feeling of success. Kind of make me feel, success is not a problem, but if the coffee runs out, IT IS A PROBLEM.

But just be cautious drinking this beverage. Over dosage might do you more harm than good. This is a familiar situation as I love to drink coffee. You know that you have had enough when there is dizziness, nausea or feel like vomiting and in some cases the bowl is hyperactive and you will go to the toilet often. The cure – drink plenty of water to wash out the caffeine.

On the other hand, researchers have shown that coffee in fact helps stimulate the nervous system and might help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. In fact some beauty care product does include coffee to help increase the metabolic rate of your cells – as a slimming product.

So, drink a cup today! Coffee is great!

Coffee…

Coffee…..

Coffeee……

(Coffee makes me feel on top of the world)

Bestest Blog - Funniest Posts of 2006

Members of Bestest Blog have been invited to submit their funniest post of 2006 in the latest Bestest Blog Carnival. For an entertaining read, check it out here at the home of Dr Blogstein. My own contribution (which comes from my blog The Secret Of Life) is my post about Halloween.

If you blog yourself, you might find it worth signing up to exchange links at the Bestest Blog site. I seem to get more referrals to The Secret Of Life from Bestest Blog than I do from all the other blog directories put together, mainly - I think - because Bobby, who runs the site, is always thinking up new ways to promote it. So do consider going there now to sign up for a link exchange. Tell him that Simon from The Secret Of Life sent you.

Successful Launch and More

It's been a little while since I have posted over here at BAYB, so I thought I would do a quick recap. Although, I have not been posting a lot, I have been checking in regularly and am amazed at how quickly this blog has grown. Hopefully, as I get some things developed, I'll have more time to contribute here.

Anywho, the most exciting news from my corner of the world is the successful launch of my new blog/personal project, No Other Rock. If you are a Christian or even interested in spiritual growth, check it out. I'm getting a lot of hits with just a little bit of self promotion, so I must be onto something.

In WordUp news, oddly enough, the most popular post at the moment is my post about comments. Check that one out when you have time. You might also find humor or interest in my post titled, "Stop Segregating My Fruits!" Good stuff there . . . at least I think so anyway.

A Free Blog Advert

Click to go to Mike's Money Making Mission Click here to visit Klik.us and build my Kliks The button leads to a free place to advertise, though you will need a photo or symbol to put on the site to represent your blog. You will then be placed on the latter pages of Klik.Us but, as you 'earn' Kliks, you can move forward to the earlier pages and, hopefully, then on to the front page.

The only 'problem' is that a lot of the 'top' photos are of attractive girls. It's not a problem to look at, but it may not be so easy to compete with for clicks to your blog. Of course, what sort of photo you want to use is optional.

I've had a few referrals from Klik.Us since I joined.

Good blogging,
Mike.

2007 Bloggies

The 2007 Bloggies are upon us. I have only been blogging a few months so I'm not too famaliar with this award, but it appears to be the best place to win. They have been giving out blog awards for a few years now. Each year they seem to be getting more categories. With Blog about your Blog's short existence some of the more serious categories would be very difficult to win. I do think it is very realistic to qualify and win for Best Community Blog, because we have some of the best authors.

Please take a moment to submit your ballot at http://2007.bloggies.com/. Each ballot must have at least 3 different blogs, so you have to nominate more than just one (or your own blogs). If you like blog about your blog or are an author and want to get some more recognition please nominate us.

Voting starts soon so don't wait. Good luck to all the contestants.

New Renter

New Renter

Listen up American Idol fans, our new renter is Idol Blog Live. Go on over to the right thumbnail and click the link. It wasn't working for some reason before, so there is also a link right above. Anyhow, their most recent post is about the much desired Golden Ticket that you get when you advance from a certain round, I think it's the one when they narrow down to like 25 I don't remember. That's not really whats important. They are asking for one to be printed up since they had never seen one, nor have I.

So go check them out and the rest of their American Idol community. Thanks Idol Blog ;)

If you don't already have a blogexplosion.com account, sign up now. If you sign up under this link I will give you 10 start up credits, for use of advertising, battling or whatever you want.

Sponsored Post- Poweroptions

I hate writing about press releases that don't make sense. This has nothing really to do with stock options newsletter at all. Let me tell you what the product seems to really be about. PowerOptions is a program that helps you decide which stocks to invest your money in. It gives you tons of options that can help you decide which stock is right.
What seems to jump out at the most at me is the extras they offer. You get a 14-day free trial to test before buying. They also offer toll-free support. I think it's a vital tool to be able to use if you have any questions.

Blog About Your Blog Redesign

Just to let everyone know that we are kicking off the redesign project on Blog About Your Blog and you'll be able to keep across the whole development phase at the forum. So if you want to see the development and have a say - pop on over to the forums.

How To Deal With Difficult Emotions

Road rage, call center rage, supermarket trolley rage... All of us can get overtaken by anger and other unpleasant emotions from time to time, some of us on a daily basis! Sometimes the cause can seem to be trivial. At others, it can be a significant life event. Even when we don't express these emotions, we can be suppressing them and storing up trouble for the future.

So what can we do about this? What can we do when these emotions take us over? This is the subject of How To Deal With Difficult Emotions, my latest post at The Secret Of Life.

So count to ten and go and take a look...

Thermal-Its just a lot of hot air

This is just to let you know about my blog, Thermal.

The sole thought behind it is to make it an easy read, with a mixture of useful info, humour, photos, blog & software tools and anything else that crawls down my internet tube. I usually manage at least 5 posts a day, every day, so if you don't like one post, the next one might tickle your fancy.

An increasing number of commenters results in lots of interesting links to take you on your way, but hopefully you'll want to come back again!

It's All About Communication

Click to go to Mike's Money Making MissionA little off track today but, there again, maybe not. Communication is what the world is all about and it's the writer who has to get his or her message across and be understood.

Anyway, getting back off track, here are some extracts from genuine letters sent to a Pensions and Benefits Office:

I cannot get sick pay. I have six children, can you tell me why this is?

You have changed my little boy into a little girl. Will this make any difference?

I have no children as my husband is a bus driver and works all day and night.

In accordance with your instructions, I have given birth to twins in the enclosed envelope.

Milk is wanted for my baby as the father is unable to supply it.

Re your enquiry. The teeth in the top are alright but the ones in the bottom are hurting horribly.

I want money as quick as you can send it. I have been in bed with my doctor all week and he does not seem to be doing me any good.

Unless I get my husband's money I shall be forced to lead an immoral life.

Sir, I am glad to say that my husband, reported missing, is now dead.

Mrs. Smith has no clothes and has not had any for a year. The clergy have been visiting her.

This is my eighth child. What are you going to do about it?

So, I wonder if our blogs are always understood!

Good blogging

Is this how it is done? Blog my Blog?

Hello! Greetings!

So this is Blog about your Blog.. I'm supposed to Blog about my Blog...

Let's seeeee.. what shall I say.. my blog is a blog but I don't use a blog software to setup my blog. You see I use another type of software to setup – Joomla! It does look like a blog but the only thing is it is much flexible. I can add many functions into my blog site – even with a blogging software.

Come and see my blog here: http://dotmyspot.com

Here’s a screenshot on how it look like:

So currently, I went to many blogs such as Mike’s Money Making Mission or something, I was researching on how to market my blog. It’s difficult! Then I noticed that this is something a lot of folks are looking for – marketing their blog. And then I went to Blog About Your Blog and I saw what he (the owner of the blog) was doing. Then I thought for a while, why not I myself do something similar? Then he found out and came to my blog and say hi @@” cold sweat went down my forehead. Luckily he was a gentleman. I also went to freeadsforblogger.blogspot.com and saw they did the same thing! – but with their own software (I got this idea here initially before I got to your site :D)

Feel free to visit my site:-

DotMySpot.com
http://dotmyspot.com

If you have questions on how to implement Joomla! please go ahead and shoot me. The content of my site includes the various ways to make money online (legit ways, those that pay) and I have a supporting blog to show my money making progress as well.

So thank you for visiting and don’t forget to leave a comment on my site. **May the force be with you and Adsense will rain money on me**

#PS: Thank you blog your blog owner for letting me blog on your blog ;)

#PS2: Also visit http://create-cash.blogspot.com and http://iamhealthyat.blogspot.com

THANK YOU!

Call to arms...

Tell me what you all think...

Plastic bags

In Australia in 2002 there were approximately 80 million plastic bags that ended up as litter!

Over at Quit Your Day Job I'm doing my little bit to remind everyone to remember to knock back plastic bags at the supermarket or takeaway.

I'm going to be setting up an Green friendly section in my blog roll for people who mention the post or display the following graphic:

It's a tiny bit of fun to remind us that any time we remember not to get plastic bags we help the environment out even just a little! So if you want to do a little link exchanging or you think it's a cool idea post a comment over at Quit Your Day Job and let everyone know!

A couple of people who have already done it are:
Life Can Come at You Fast
Tech News

Just wanted to note also that Tech News has got some US stats too the most important and I think this is the message I'm trying to get across is:

In New York City alone, one less grocery bag per person per year would reduce waste by 5 million lbs. and save $250,000 in disposal costs.

A Thought For Today

Click to go to Mike's Money Making MissionIf others can do something, then so can we - well sometimes.

Take the four minute mile, as an example.

For many years it was thought of as impossible to run a mile in less than four minutes. In 1954, however, Roger Bannister did the impossible.

One of the things he did was to rehearse the event, in his mind, over and over until he believed he could achieve his wish.

As history now shows Bannister achieved his dream but the most interesting thing is ... within one year 37 other runners also did a four minute mile and the year after that over 300 people did the same thing.

Once the imaginary barrier had been broken it was no longer though of as impossible. Today the equivalent of the four minute mile is common place.

We build barriers for ourselves - but they can be broken down.

Good blogging,
Mike

BlogAboutYourBlog Update

Little disappointed to annouce we only have 6 members on the forum, but they are 6 great members! lol. I haven't promoted the forum full fledge yet, or sent emails but that is soon to come. I am still testing the forum and looking to install a new template for the design. So you can consider it in Beta. The forum discussions however will not be affected, so please take a second and join us.

The Blog of the Year voting is almost complete. Remember the top 4 blog's in each poll advance, with one wildcard blog to the finals. The voting for the first round ends at 12pm PST time. After that I will be making one final poll to vote on, and ask the 5 finalists for their paypal emails so they can receive their 5$ upon winning.

I am also considering putting together a blog of the month with the same concept. Leave me a comment if you'd participate in something like that.

Sponsored Post- Florida Vacation

Have you ever been to Florida? If so, you've most likely gone to places like Walt Disney World and Epcot Center, to name a few. I went to most of Florida's main attractions myself and had a pretty good time. When people mention Florida, things like nice beaches, golf courses, and Disney World come to mind. When I think of it, the terrible sticky weather comes to my mind. The experience is nice, but the idea of going in Mid-May is not. Besides the weather, I think it is a great vacation spot. Orlandovacation.com suggests and offers Disney World packages, which may save you a few bucks.

2007....Here We Come

Now that 2007 is here, it almost feels like a refreshing new start. I am excited to move forward with the year and cant wait to see what it brings.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year with hopes that something exciting is coming your way this year as well.

It snowed where I live last night. It was very beautiful, but I am not much for cold weather and snow. So I am posting a calm, warm picture of when my husband and I went to Jamaica a couple of years ago. Ah, I can just feel the sun on my skin now!

See you around the blog!

It's a new year and a new approach...

Wow I can't believe that 2007 has already started!!! And I'm excited to be the 100 post here!!!!

So with the new year comes a change for me and the way I blog - I'm going to try and not use the blog exchanges! They take up so much of my time right now and I don't think I'm getting the return on the man hours which personally would be better spent posting in places like here or comments on other people's blogs.

If the exchanges have a good deal going on where I can get a decent amount of credits fairly easily and see NEW blogs I'll have a brief look but I'm not going to obsess over trying to get those credits up!

That being said I'm already cringing a little at the rant and if I see those numbers drop I just know I'm going to go crawling back. *sigh* I feel like I'm in a bad relationship!
